Most of the U-Line calls we get in Castro Valley come out of remodeled ranch houses in the hills above the Boulevard. A 1958 kitchen gets opened up, an island goes in, and a U-Line beverage center or 1224WC wine unit gets built into the new cabinetry. Five or six years later the unit runs warm and the homeowner discovers the installer left no service clearance at all. That is a normal Tuesday for us. We know how to get these out without splitting the island panels.

Every fridge with a dispenser or ice maker has a water inlet valve. The fittings can leak under the cabinet, or the solenoid fails and the dispenser and ice maker stop getting water.

Condenser packed with dust behind the toe-kick grille. U-Line undercounter units breathe through the front grille, and in a remodeled kitchen that grille sits right at floor level collecting pet hair and drywall dust. A blocked condenser drives head pressure up, the cabinet runs 8 to 10 degrees warm, and the compressor cooks itself over time. I pull the grille, clean the coil properly with the unit out far enough to reach it, and check the condenser fan while I am in there.
Thermistor drift on wine units. When a Wine Captain holds 62 degrees against a 55 degree setpoint and the coil is clean, the thermistor has usually drifted. The control board is reading a temperature that is not real. I verify with an independent probe in the cabinet, meter the thermistor resistance against the spec table, and replace the sensor rather than guessing at the board.
Door out of alignment on panel-ready units. Castro Valley remodels love overlay panels, and a custom panel adds weight the hinge was set up for only if the installer adjusted it. The door sags, the gasket stops sealing at the top corner, and the unit frosts and runs long. I reset the hinge tension, square the door to the cabinet, and confirm the seal all the way around before I leave.
