Common issues
Traulsen is a heavy-duty brand we are glad to open the door on. It is built for hard kitchen use and built to be serviced, so a down unit is almost always worth repairing rather than replacing. A maintained Traulsen keeps running for a long stretch. The problems we get called for trace back to age, not poor engineering.
Thermostat problems are the most common Traulsen call. The unit runs warm or won’t hold its setpoint once the thermostat drifts or fails. From $250 labor plus the part.
Refrigerant leaks show up after 15 to 20 years. Long-run vibration and corrosion eventually open the sealed system. It is the larger job, and the one most general appliance techs can’t legally or properly take on. We are EPA-certified (EPA #1279674151528) and set up for it. A sealed-system rebuild runs up to $4000 with a 2-year warranty on the repair.
Door gaskets wear out when maintenance gets neglected. A bad gasket lets warm air in, keeps the compressor running without rest, and runs your power bill up. Swapping a worn gasket is one of the cheapest repairs on the unit, and it keeps the compressor from grinding itself out. Ignored, it cuts the life of the whole unit.
Commercial labor uses the same $250 base, though hard access, shifting neighboring units aside, or a second tech can raise it. The $75 service call is flat and includes full diagnostics. We quote before any work.
