Trane in Cupertino

Trane heating and cooling in Cupertino.

Cupertino has a particular wrinkle: the Eichler homes. These mid-century houses have flat roofs, radiant slab heating and almost no attic, so a standard ducted Trane system does not drop in. When an Eichler owner wants a Trane heat pump, we are usually planning a ductless mini-split because there is nowhere to run conventional ducts.

The rest of the city runs cooler than the inland valleys, with a milder South Bay climate, but Cupertino still gets warm afternoons that make cooling worth having. The newer subdivisions off Stevens Creek and the tract homes are standard ducted systems where a Trane condenser and furnace do the usual work.

HVAC runs through our division Bay Area HVAC Service. I am EPA 608 Universal certified, we hold CSLB #1136642, and the $75 diagnostic is waived with the repair. We give a written quote before work and cover seven days.

Common repairs we do

What we close on the truck.

  • Ductless mini-split faults in Eichler homes without attics. Eichlers have no attic to run ducts, so the Trane systems here are ductless. The common calls are a clogged condensate line on the wall head or a comms fault to the outdoor unit. I clear the drain or trace the head-to-condenser wiring rather than chasing a duct that is not there.
  • Climatuff compressor capacitor on warm South Bay afternoons. The warm Cupertino afternoons cycle the Trane condenser enough to wear the run capacitor that drives the Climatuff compressor and the fan. When the unit hums but does not start, a tired capacitor is the usual cause, and I replace it with the correct microfarad rating.
  • Variable-speed blower board on XV furnaces in newer homes. The newer Cupertino homes often run Trane XV furnaces with a variable-speed blower board, which is proprietary. When the blower runs wrong or throws a code, I confirm it is the board and not the motor first, because the board is the costlier and brand-specific part.

FAQ

Trane in Cupertino questions, answered.

  • How long is the drive to Cupertino from San Ramon?
Cupertino is one of our longer South Bay runs. From San Ramon it is about 45 to 55 minutes down the 680 and 880. We also cover Sunnyvale, San Jose, Los Altos and Mountain View nearby, so we group South Bay calls to keep the window reasonable.
  • I have an Eichler. Can a Trane system even fit?
Yes, as a ductless mini-split. Eichlers have no attic for ducts, so a ducted Trane does not work, but a Trane ductless system handles heating and cooling cleanly. We quote the retrofit in writing first.
  • The variable-speed board on my Trane failed. Is that a common Cupertino repair?
On the newer homes, yes. The proprietary variable-speed boards do fail and they cost more than a generic control. I diagnose the board against the motor so you do not pay for the wrong part, and the real price goes on the written quote.
