- Variable-speed board faults on Evergreen and Almaden systems. The newer San Jose homes with high-end Trane XV equipment fault out at the inverter board. You get error codes and a dead compressor. The board is a real-money part, so I confirm it is the board and not a thermistor or loose connector before ordering it.
- Overheating from dirty coils in valley heat. San Jose condensers pull in a lot of dust and pollen, and a caked coil makes the Trane compressor trip on high pressure on the hottest afternoons. I clean the coil and verify the charge so the system can keep up when it is 95 out.
- Furnace igniter and flame sensor faults. On the Trane furnaces in Willow Glen and Cambrian, the hot surface igniter and flame sensor are the usual no-heat callers. The furnace lights then shuts down on a dirty sensor. I clean or replace the sensor and check the igniter so it fires clean.
