Our T24 stopped making ice. Should we order a new ice maker?

Not yet. Check that the ice bin is pushed all the way in and locked, since the on-off switch rides on the bin. If it is seated and there is still no ice, the mold, the fill tube or the harvest motor has likely failed, and on the T24 we replace the whole assembly because those parts wear together.

Is refrigerant work on a Freedom column something you handle?

Yes. Our technician is EPA 608 Type I certified. When a column loses refrigerant, we pressure the lines with nitrogen, find the leaks with soap and rebuild the corroded copper, rather than adding gas and hoping.

Hercules homes are mostly two-story, detached and attached, built in the 1970s and 1980s along Refugio Valley Road and in the early 2000s at Victoria by the Bay. Where a Thermador Freedom column went into one of those kitchens, the fault to know about is the defrost, not the ice maker. These columns run an adaptive defrost with two heaters, one on the evaporator and one on the drain. When the drain heater quits or the drain path clogs, meltwater refreezes into a slab under the lowest drawer or shows up at the toe kick.

We clear and test both heaters and the drain rather than just chipping the ice out. EBMUD water is soft to moderate, so scale seldom stops the ice maker here, and a bin that is not seated all the way is a likelier culprit. Our technician for the Hercules area is based in Benicia. What the work looks like

Common repairs we handle.

Ice slab under the lowest freezer drawer. Water refreezing at the bottom of the cabinet means the drain heater or the drain path has failed. We melt out the ice, test both defrost heaters, clear the drain and confirm meltwater reaches the pan. Chipping the ice out alone just brings the slab back.
Column that runs but will not pull temperature. Before condemning any part, we run the onboard service test. It cycles the compressor, both heaters, both fans, the ice maker and, on the 18-inch column, the solenoid stop valve, and reads each sensor. A stuck stop valve or a failed fan shows up during the test.
Star Burner ignitors clicking on every burner. When all the ignitors fire no matter which knob you turn, one wet or shorted gas valve micro-switch is usually the cause. We dry and test the switches, replace the faulty one, and check the spark module while the cooktop is open.
