Sub-Zero in Vallejo

Sub-Zero in Vallejo kitchens.

Vallejo's water comes from Lake Berryessa and the State Water Project, treated at Fleming Hill, and it runs hard. On a Sub-Zero, the ice maker feels that first. Scale builds at the inlet valve screen and slows the fill, so the mold comes up short and the cubes turn small or hollow. On current models the ice module reads the bin with an optical sensor, and fouled optics can make an empty bin look full, so the unit stops making ice.

Homes here range from the Victorian and Craftsman houses downtown to Glen Cove, built mostly in the 1980s and 1990s, and Hiddenbrooke off Interstate 80. A Classic Series built-in from a Glen Cove kitchen of that era may have more than twenty years on it and still be worth fixing. Our technician for Vallejo works out of Benicia, next door. You pay a $99 diagnostic, credited toward the repair, and you get a written quote before any repair starts.

What the work looks like

A built-in sealed-system leak repair.

Nitrogen pressure and a soap-bubble test on a built-in fridge line set. We map every leak source before we braze.
The corroded copper up close. After fifteen-plus years this is why a real fix rebuilds the sealed run, so you do not pay the labor twice.

Brazing a new line onto the compressor during the same kind of sealed-system repair. Recover, braze, evacuate, and recharge: the real fix, done as one complete job.

Common repairs we handle.

  • Ice module stops calling for ice. We start upstream of the module: supply pressure at the valve, the line behind the cabinet, and scale at the inlet screen. Then we run a harvest cycle and clean or test the optical bin sensor. A seized module motor means a new module. A scaled valve gets replaced rather than tapped back to life.
  • Condenser coil caked behind a blocked grille. Classic 36-inch and 48-inch units draw air across a coil behind the top grille. Trim or a panel over that grille starves it, the coil cakes with dust and the compressor runs long. Vallejo's mild, bay-cooled weather is easy on a condenser, so a hot-running unit here points us to airflow before anything else.
  • Dead ice dispenser on a 736TCI. Water still pours and the panel lights look normal, but no ice comes out. On the 736TCI and 736TC that points at the dispenser control board, which Sub-Zero no longer makes but independent refurbishers rebuild. We test the wiring and the dispenser switch before ordering, since either one can fake the same fault.

FAQ

Sub-Zero in Vallejo questions, answered.

  • Will a water softener keep scale out of our Vallejo Sub-Zero ice maker?
It helps, and so does an inline filter changed on schedule. A softener will not clean a valve or module that has already scaled, so we deal with those first. Then we check that pressure at the fill is still strong enough, because some filter and reverse-osmosis setups under the sink drop it too far.
  • Is a 1990s Classic Series in a Glen Cove kitchen worth repairing?
Usually. A Sub-Zero is built to be serviced, parts are available, and the cabinet outlasts several rounds of components. Replacing a built-in also means refitting cabinetry. If the sealed system has failed, our technician is EPA 608 Type I certified, and we put the rebuild and the replacement cost side by side in writing.
  • Are you part of Sub-Zero's factory service network?
No. We are an independent repair company, not a Sub-Zero dealer and not in its factory network. If your unit is still under the manufacturer's warranty, start with Sub-Zero. Out of warranty, we follow the factory service procedures and quote every repair in writing.
