Half Moon Bay is the anchor of our Coastside coverage, and that includes the seafood restaurants along Main Street, the harbor-front kitchens at Pillar Point, and the smaller cafes and inns scattered through Montara, Moss Beach, and El Granada. Most of what I see out here runs Indigo NXT or Koolaire heads, and every one of them lives with salt air the machines two towns inland never see. ADRIUM completed Manitowoc's own factory training on the Ice and Koolaire line, taught by Jonathan Binley at Pentair Water Solutions, and coastal units get a different level of attention because of what that air does to them.
Salt-laden air corrodes condenser fins and electrical contacts faster than anywhere else on our route. A coil that would last years in Redwood City can show fin erosion in a fraction of that time a few blocks from the harbor, and I check for it on every Coastside visit whether or not it's the reason for the call.

- Condenser coil corrosion from salt air. Fin stock near the harbor pits and corrodes well ahead of its normal service life, and a corroded coil loses efficiency before it fails outright, so ice output drops first. I clean and inspect the coil on every coastal call and talk through a coastal-rated coil coating when the fins are far enough gone that cleaning alone won't hold.
- Curtain switch and electrical contact failures near the harbor. The same salt air that eats condenser fins gets into switch contacts and connectors over time, and a corroded curtain switch will read the bin wrong or stall the harvest cycle. I check contact condition as part of any Coastside service call, not just when it's the reported fault.
- Scale from well and private water systems in outlying Coastside spots. Some properties in Montara, Moss Beach, and around El Granada run on well or private water systems rather than the municipal supply, and mineral content varies a lot more than it does on district water. I test the actual water feeding the machine instead of assuming a standard filter schedule will handle it.

Yes, and it's the harbor air, not a defective unit. Standard aluminum fin stock corrodes faster this close to salt water than it would inland, and a coastal-rated coil or a tighter cleaning schedule is usually the right fix rather than replacing a machine that's otherwise fine.
