Liebherr in Castro Valley

Liebherr in Castro Valley kitchens.

Castro Valley stays mild. Marine air works through the gap at Hayward, and most summer afternoons sit in the high 70s and low 80s. A Liebherr here is not straining against heat, which makes a change in how it sounds a useful clue. A new tick, buzz or squeal usually comes from a fan, and a fan that slows or stops lets the cabinet warm while the compressor keeps running.

Built-in refrigeration shows up in the remodeled homes of Five Canyons and Palomares Hills, the 1990s-and-newer hillside tracts, while the flats around the Village and Jensen Ranch are mid-century ranch houses. Wherever the unit sits, we listen first, then check the evaporator and condenser fans, the defrost system and the door seal. The $99 diagnostic gets credited toward the repair, and the written quote comes before any work starts.

Common repairs we do

Common repairs we handle.

  • Ticking or scraping from inside the freezer. A tick or scrape that comes and goes is often the evaporator fan blade catching on ice. The fan is the messenger, not the cause: ice there means the defrost heater, its sensor or the drain has a problem. We fix the defrost fault and replace the fan only if the motor is damaged.
  • Buzz or rattle from the machine compartment. Noise from the machine compartment usually comes from the condenser fan or something loose around it. A condenser fan that labors lets heat build up, and the compressor runs longer to make up for it. We clean the condenser, test the fan motor and secure whatever rattles.
  • Cabinet warming while the compressor keeps running. If the compressor runs but the cabinet warms, cold is being made and not moved. That points to a stopped fan, an iced evaporator or a blocked air path. We test the sealed system only after the airflow causes are ruled out.

FAQ

Liebherr in Castro Valley questions, answered.

  • Our Liebherr in Palomares Hills started humming louder this summer. Should we worry?
A louder hum often means the compressor is running longer, usually because the condenser is dusty or its fan is weak. It is worth a look before it turns into a cooling failure. A cleaning and a fan check are often all it needs.
  • Can a noisy Liebherr fan be fixed, or does the whole unit need replacing?
Fans are a standard repair. We replace the motor or blade, and if ice caused the noise, we fix the defrost fault behind it so the new fan is not damaged the same way. Replacing a refrigerator over a fan would be money wasted.
  • Our Five Canyons kitchen was remodeled around a built-in Liebherr. Can you work on it without pulling trim?
Most fan, defrost and gasket work is done from the front with the unit in place. If it has to come out, we check how the trim and panels are attached first and protect them during the pull.
