LG in Pacifica

LG in Pacifica kitchens.

Pacifica sits right on the coast, and the salt air rolling in off Rockaway Beach and Linda Mar does real damage to anything with exposed metal. On LG fridges we see it on the condenser fins on the back of the unit and on the wiring behind the range control knobs. A corroded condenser makes the compressor work harder and can look like a cooling failure when it's really airflow. We check for that before we assume it's the 2014 to 2019 linear-compressor problem, which also shows up plenty out here.

Range calls are more common in Pacifica than in the inland cities we cover, and it usually comes down to the ignition switch behind the control knob corroding from the damp air and failing to spark. Laundry is standard LG dual-inverter fault work, LE from a drifted rotor sensor, UE from a worn suspension rod, same as anywhere else on the coast side.

Water and ice systems

The water inlet valve, a common fridge leak.

Every fridge with a dispenser or ice maker has a water inlet valve. The fittings can leak under the cabinet, or the solenoid fails and the dispenser and ice maker stop getting water.

Laundry

How to spot a bad washer drain pump.

LG and Samsung washer drain pumps side by side. When a washer will not drain or hums at the end of a cycle, this small pump is the usual suspect, and the two brands fail in different ways.

Common repairs we do

What we close on the truck.

  • Corroded condenser coil and airflow check. Salt air off the coast corrodes the condenser fins on the back of the fridge, which raises head pressure and can look like a compressor failure. We clean and inspect before condemning the compressor.
  • Range ignition switch failure. The control-knob ignition switch corrodes faster out here than inland. Burner won't light, we swap the switch and test the spark before we leave.
  • Linear-compressor no-cool on 2014-2019 fridges. Still shows up in Pacifica same as everywhere. Compressor runs, box won't pull down. We check the serial against LG's program before quoting.

FAQ

LG in Pacifica questions, answered.

  • Do you actually come out to Pacifica, or just the inland Peninsula?
We cover Pacifica regularly. Our Peninsula-based technician runs it alongside Daly City and San Bruno, so it's a normal stop, not a special trip.
  • Does salt air really cause appliance failures, or is that a sales pitch?
It's real. Condenser fins and range hardware sitting a mile or two from the ocean corrode faster than the same parts inland. I check for corrosion damage before I tell you it's a compressor or a control board, because sometimes it's just a coil that needs cleaning.
  • My LG dryer or washer is only a few years old. Should corrosion be a concern yet?
Less of one than the fridge, since laundry sits indoors. The washer's suspension rods and the dryer's heating element wear out on their own schedule regardless of the coast. It's the fridge's back panel and anything with an exposed control knob that takes the coastal beating.
