KitchenAid in Martinez

KitchenAid in Martinez kitchens.

Martinez kitchens skew older and more characterful than most of the county. The craftsman and bungalow blocks around downtown and near the marina have narrow kitchens where a KitchenAid French door or a 24-inch-deep dishwasher was fitted into original cabinet runs. Up toward the Alhambra hills the newer homes carry current KitchenAid suites. Either way, we come up 680 from San Ramon and handle it on site.

Older homes bring older infrastructure: 15-amp circuits shared across the kitchen, drain plumbing with quirks, water on the harder side. I factor that in, because a fridge that trips a breaker or a dishwasher that backs up is not always the appliance's fault. Since KitchenAid runs on the Whirlpool group platform, once the real fault is isolated the parts and the fix are predictable.

What the work looks like

A built-in sealed-system leak repair.

Nitrogen pressure and a soap-bubble test on a built-in fridge line set. We map every leak source before we braze.
The corroded copper up close. After fifteen-plus years this is why a real fix rebuilds the sealed run, so you do not pay the labor twice.

Brazing a new line onto the compressor during the same kind of sealed-system repair. Recover, braze, evacuate, and recharge: the real fix, done as one complete job.

What the work looks like

A dishwasher leaking from the pump and sump.

The base of a Whirlpool-family dishwasher, where the circulation pump, sump, and diverter live. A worn pump seal, a cracked sump, or the diverter lets water past and onto the floor.

Common repairs we do

What we close on the truck.

  • Frost building up on the back wall of the freezer. On the single-evaporator KitchenAid models common in Martinez homes, a sheet of frost on the freezer's back panel means the defrost circuit quit: heater, defrost thermostat, or the control that times it. Airflow to the fresh food side chokes off and temperatures drift up. I meter the heater and bimetal on the spot instead of defrosting it with a hair dryer and hoping, which is what the unit already tried on its own.
  • Range burner igniter clicking weakly or not at all. Martinez's older downtown homes collect moisture near the marina, and gas rangetop igniter electrodes corrode faster here than inland. A KitchenAid burner that needs three tries to light usually has a corroded electrode tip or a cracked ceramic insulator leaking spark to ground. Both are inexpensive fixes when caught before the spark module gets damaged from the extra load.
  • Dishwasher backing up into the sink or draining slowly. In pre-war Martinez plumbing I regularly find the dishwasher blamed for what the drain line is doing. A KitchenAid that drains slowly can have a tired pump, but just as often the branch line or air gap is restricted. I test the pump's output directly at the machine before condemning it, so the quote targets the actual problem.

FAQ

KitchenAid in Martinez questions, answered.

  • How far is Martinez from your San Ramon base?
About 35 minutes straight up 680, past Pleasant Hill, exiting toward downtown. Martinez rides the same Diablo Valley route as Pleasant Hill and Concord, so we are in the corridor several times a week and can usually offer a next-day window rather than a next-week one.
  • My KitchenAid is from the early 2000s. Can you still get parts?
More often than you would think. The Whirlpool group kept a lot of platform continuity, and rebuilt boards fill the gaps where new parts dried up. The diagnostic visit answers it definitively: I identify the exact part, confirm availability, and put the price in the written quote before you commit.
  • What happens after I approve the quote?
If the part is stocked in the van, the repair happens the same visit and the $75 diagnostic is waived on the spot. If it needs ordering, we schedule the return trip when the part lands, usually within a few days, and the repair carries a 1-year warranty either way.
