GE in Portola Valley

GE in Portola Valley kitchens.

Portola Valley has almost no commercial center beyond the small cluster of shops at the town center, so GE appliance calls here are residential, on wooded-acreage properties off Alpine Road and Portola Road and the mid-century modern homes in the Ladera-adjacent pockets. The pattern is a main kitchen with a Monogram or Cafe package installed during a remodel, plus GE units in an ADU or a second kitchen on the property.

GE belongs to Haier now, and homeowners who bought a Monogram unit years ago sometimes worry that changed what is available for repair. It has not, in the direction they fear. Boards, fans, valves, and icemaker kits are still stocked for units well over a decade old, and out here where a public safety power shutoff can mean a hard restart for every appliance in the house, I check control boards for shutoff-related faults before assuming a part failed on its own. More electronics per appliance means more board-level failures, and I diagnose those with a meter.

ADRIUM Service Solutions runs out of San Ramon, and I am the owner, Andrew Kuznetsov. EPA 608 Universal, CSLB license 1136642. Diagnostic is $75, waived once you approve the repair, always a written quote, one year warranty on the repair, and we are available all 7 days.

Water and ice systems

The water inlet valve, a common fridge leak.

Every fridge with a dispenser or ice maker has a water inlet valve. The fittings can leak under the cabinet, or the solenoid fails and the dispenser and ice maker stop getting water.

Common repairs we do

What we close on the truck.

  • GE Cafe french door refrigerator icemaker failures. The icemaker on a Cafe CFE28 or similar french door box has one well known failure point, the motor module or a frozen fill tube starving the ice bin. Before I write up a new icemaker, I check the inlet valve and fill path, since that is the actual cause roughly half the time. On the well-water properties toward Skyline I also look at the inlet valve screen for sediment while I am in there.
  • Monogram built-in ice buildup and warm fresh food section. Portola Valley's larger custom homes turn up the same recurring problem on Monogram built-ins, a frosted evaporator sitting behind a failed defrost heater or thermostat. The fresh food compartment drifts warm over a period of weeks while the freezer keeps working fine, which is what confuses most owners. It is an easy fix with the panel off, and much less costly than the sealed system failure people assume they are facing.
  • GE Profile induction and radiant cooktop element failures. The mid-century modern kitchens near Ladera picked up GE Profile induction, PHP9036 class cooktops, during their remodels. A dead induction zone almost always traces to that zone's generator board rather than the coil itself. Older radiant glass tops still running in some of the ranch houses toward Skyline fail differently, usually the element or the infinite switch. I test at the board connector rather than guessing, so you are not paying for parts the cooktop did not need.

FAQ

GE in Portola Valley questions, answered.

  • Do you come out to Portola Valley regularly, or is it a special trip?
It is a regular stop, not a special trip. Figure 50 to 60 minutes from San Ramon via 680 south and 92 or 280. We schedule Portola Valley on the same Peninsula day as Hillsborough, and you get a written arrival time once the appointment is confirmed.
  • Is a GE built-in worth fixing once it is past 15 years old?
Often, yes, and I judge each unit on its own rather than by age. Monogram built-ins of that era hold up well and parts are still around for most models. What actually changes things is a failed sealed system. I put the repair cost in writing and say plainly if a new unit is the better move.
  • Is this warranty work or do we pay out of pocket?
We run independent, so what we fix is backed by our own one year warranty, not a manufacturer program. Diagnostic is $75, waived if you move ahead with the repair. Any rebate that might apply to related work, we confirm the current terms at estimate time instead of quoting old numbers.
