GE in Half Moon Bay

GE in Half Moon Bay kitchens.

Half Moon Bay is the Coastside anchor, and we run the same route out to cover Montara, Moss Beach, and El Granada. The salt air off Pillar Point Harbor changes what fails first on a GE appliance out here compared to inland. Metal parts corrode faster, and that shows up in igniters, spark modules, and refrigerator coils before it shows up anywhere else.

A gas range that clicks but won't light is usually a corroded spark module or igniter connector, not a bad control board. Refrigerator coils and cabinet fasteners rust ahead of schedule too, and a fridge that runs warm out here is often a coil problem before it's a compressor problem.

I check those salt-air spots even on calls that come in for something unrelated, since the damage is often ahead of whatever the customer actually called about.

Water and ice systems

The water inlet valve, a common fridge leak.

Every fridge with a dispenser or ice maker has a water inlet valve. The fittings can leak under the cabinet, or the solenoid fails and the dispenser and ice maker stop getting water.

Common repairs we do

What we close on the truck.

  • Gas range igniter and spark module. Salt air off the harbor eats spark module contacts and igniter wiring faster than anywhere else on my route. Burner clicks and clicks but won't light. I replace the igniter or module and add dielectric grease to the connector to slow the corrosion back down.
  • Refrigerator coil and cabinet corrosion. Coastside kitchens near Main Street and out toward Montara see the condenser coil and cabinet fasteners corrode ahead of schedule. Fridge runs warm because the coil can't shed heat through the rust. I clean or replace the coil and check compressor amp draw.
  • Profile icemaker assembly. Same icemaker failure I see everywhere on Profile fridges, auger jams or the fill valve sticks, but out here the housing corrodes faster from the moisture. I replace the assembly and check the water line for scale while I'm in there.

FAQ

GE in Half Moon Bay questions, answered.

  • Do you come out to Half Moon Bay and the rest of the Coastside?
Yes. We cover Half Moon Bay plus Montara, Moss Beach, and El Granada on the same route, since we keep a technician based on the Peninsula in San Mateo County. Written arrival window before the drive over the hill.
  • Does the salt air make GE repairs different out there?
It changes what fails first. Igniters, spark modules, and exposed metal fasteners corrode faster than they do inland. I check those spots even on calls that come in for something else, since salt-air damage is often ahead of the complaint you called about.
  • What's the diagnostic fee for Half Moon Bay?
$99, same as everywhere else on our route, waived when you book the repair. Written quote before I start, whether it's a place on Main Street or one out toward El Granada.
