Condenser coil fouled from wine cellar or bar area buildup. In a home bar setup, dust and lint from the surrounding cabinetry settle into the condenser coil just as fast as kitchen grease does in a restaurant. Once the coil is coated, the unit can't get rid of heat properly, so head pressure and amp draw ride higher on every cycle. The run capacitor is usually the first thing to fail under that strain, it's the weakest electrical component in the circuit, though a compressor that's been ignored long enough can go too.
Water line or drain partially blocked. A deli counter unit at the Rheem Center that runs steady through lunch and after school builds up scale in the fill valve faster than a home bar unit used a few times a week. Instead of shutting down, the machine throws a low production code, so staff assume it's just having an off day rather than catching a real fault.
Auger motor and gearbox slipping. On an estate home unit that gets used mainly for entertaining and sits idle in between, I still see gearbox wear show up after five or six years, the auger motor runs but the flight has worn down or there's enough slack in the gear train that pellets barely make it to the bin. Long idle periods don't stop mechanical wear, they just delay when someone notices it.
