Condenser Coil Fouling and Capacitor Failure. Salt air off the estuary builds a film on the condenser fins quicker than I see inland, and once airflow drops the compressor works harder every cycle to reject heat. Head pressure and amp draw climb until the run capacitor, the weakest part in that circuit, gives out first. I pull and wash the coil, check the capacitor's microfarad rating against spec, and replace it before it strands the compressor.
Water Inlet or Drain Blockage. A partially clogged water inlet valve or a slow drain line shows up on the Horizon Elite display as a low production alarm, not a water fault, so operators often think the machine itself is dying. I trace the water path from the supply line through the reservoir and out the drain before touching the ice making side. Older Alameda buildings with original galvanized plumbing feeding the unit are the usual culprit.
Auger Motor and Gearbox Wear. When a Chewblet machine runs, sounds normal, and still barely fills the bin, the auger motor or its gearbox is usually worn past spec rather than the refrigeration side. I check amp draw on the auger motor under load and inspect gearbox play before recommending a replacement. High volume Park Street cafes push these units hard enough that gearbox wear shows up years before the compressor does.
