Comfortmaker in Dublin

Comfortmaker heating and cooling in Dublin.

Dublin sits inland in the Tri-Valley, and that shows in how HVAC systems behave here. Summer highs regularly hit the mid-to-upper 90s, and the subdivisions east of Dougherty Road that went up through the 80s and 90s are full of ducted central systems, two-stage condensers, and forced-air furnaces, exactly the equipment Comfortmaker built its line around. I see a lot of Comfortmaker installs in Dublin, particularly in the tracts off Dublin Boulevard and around Fallon Road, where builders chose contractor-channel equipment priced for volume production.

Diagnosing a Comfortmaker is straightforward for me because the control board architecture, igniter design, and gas valve family are shared with Carrier and Bryant. I pull stored fault codes off the board before I touch anything else, which points me to the actual failed component rather than a symptom. On the cooling side I check capacitor readings and contactor condition on every call, not only the part that was complained about, because this climate runs the condenser hard for months and secondary failures are common in the same season.

All repair work here is handled through Bay Area HVAC Service, our HVAC division out of San Ramon. The diagnostic fee is $75 and I apply it toward the repair if you go ahead. Before any work starts, you get a written quote with parts and labor itemized. I carry EPA Section 608 Universal certification and we hold CSLB license 1136642. New installations come with a 10-year parts and 10-year labor warranty. Repairs carry a 1-year warranty on the work. If there are utility or manufacturer rebates available, I confirm the actual current amounts at estimate time, I do not quote figures that may have changed.

Common repairs we do

What we close on the truck.

  • Cracked or open-circuit igniter. The hot-surface igniter on Comfortmaker furnaces is a common failure point in systems that have been running Dublin summers and winters for five or more years. The board logs a lockout fault after three failed ignition attempts, and the furnace goes cold. I verify with a resistance reading before ordering, because a cracked igniter can test marginal rather than open and still fail to light under thermal stress. Replacement is a direct swap and the furnace is back in service the same visit.
  • Flame sensor carbon buildup and short-cycling. If the furnace lights, runs for a few seconds, and then shuts off repeatedly, a carboned-over flame sensor is the most likely cause. The sensor oxidizes over time and can no longer pass enough microamp current to satisfy the board, so the board reads it as no flame and shuts the gas valve. I clean the rod with fine emery cloth, recheck the microamp reading with a meter in-line, and confirm the cycle completes cleanly before closing the call. If the reading is still marginal after cleaning, I replace the sensor.
  • Condenser capacitor failure during peak cooling season. Dublin summers put continuous load on AC condensers from late May through September, and run capacitors fail from that sustained heat more than almost any other single component. The symptom is the condenser fan or compressor humming but not starting, or the compressor drawing high locked-rotor current. I measure microfarad rating against the nameplate tolerance before condemning the capacitor, replace it with a correctly-rated part, and check starting amperage to confirm the compressor is not already damaged. Catching a failed run capacitor early usually avoids a much more expensive compressor replacement.

FAQ

Comfortmaker in Dublin questions, answered.

  • Do you actually come out to Dublin, or is that outside your service area?
Dublin is a regular stop for us. We run out of San Ramon, which puts us maybe 10 to 15 minutes from most of Dublin depending on where exactly you are. The Tri-Valley is core service territory, not a stretch.
  • Is Comfortmaker a reasonable choice for a Dublin home, or would I be better off with a different brand?
Comfortmaker sits on the same Carrier platform as Heil and Tempstar, so the components are proven and parts are easy to source. For most Dublin homes with existing ductwork, the honest answer is that installation quality and price matter more than the name on the box. The SoftSound furnace line does run quieter than average if blower noise in a slab-floor ranch is a concern. I can tell you whether the model you are looking at fits the duct system you have.
  • What does the $75 diagnostic actually cover, and what warranty comes with the repair?
The $75 covers me coming out, pulling fault codes, running the system through its cycle, doing the electrical and mechanical checks needed to identify the actual failed part, and giving you a written quote. If you approve the repair that day, the $75 is credited against the job total. All repair work carries a 1-year warranty on parts and labor. If the conversation turns to a new installation, those carry 10-year parts and 10-year labor coverage.
