It could. A sour shot at a fine setting can mean the water is too cool, which points to the thermostat, a temperature sensor, or scale on the heater. We measure brew temperature at the group and trace the cause before quoting any part.

We live on the Eastside. Do you come to the door for the machine?

Yes. We collect it at your door anywhere in town, the Eastside, Southampton, the West Side or downtown, and return it there once the repair is done.

Benicia sits on the north bank of the Carquinez Strait, just east of Vallejo, and a large share of its homes went up between the 1970s and the 1990s. We pick up Breville machines across it, from Southampton and the Eastside to the West Side and the older buildings downtown on First Street. Every model comes in, from the Bambino and the Barista Pro to the BES920 Dual Boiler and the Oracle Touch.

Benicia water is moderately hard, and its hardness moves with the supply the city draws on: the State Water Project, Lake Berryessa or Lake Herman. That makes a fixed descale schedule a guess. When a machine is open on our bench, we look at the scale in the boiler or heater and tell you whether to descale more often or less.

What we repair on the bench.

Barista Pro runs a few seconds, then cuts out. Sometimes the thermostat has come loose from the heater, the thermal protection reads wrong, and power cuts almost at once. We check that seating before testing the heater or the board. When reseating the thermostat is the whole fix, the machine goes through several heat cycles on the bench and comes back with no new parts.
Barista grinder that hums but delivers little coffee. Oily beans and fines pack the chute and the upper burr, and the grinder runs with almost nothing coming out. We pull the burrs, clear the chute and check the burrs for wear. Worn burrs go on the quote. Dirty ones get cleaned and set back to a grind that pulls a normal shot.
A shared machine in an Arsenal studio or office. A Breville that makes coffee for several people a day wears its group gasket, shower screen and pump sooner than one pulling two shots at home. We replace the worn seals, clean the group, measure pump pressure, and list what else is close to its limit so the next repair can be planned.
