Belmont sits between San Carlos and San Mateo on the Peninsula, and the machines we take on here are the Oracle, Oracle Touch, and Dual Boiler, the top of the Breville range, the kind that ends up on a counter in a household serious about daily espresso. The hillside streets above Ralston Avenue and the newer builds near Belmont Village both send us the same complaint most often: a grinder that used to run smooth now grinds in fits and starts, or stalls out with beans still sitting in the hopper.

That stall is almost never the motor itself. Oil from the beans builds up on the burrs and inside the chute over months of daily use, and the grinder starts working against its own residue. I pull the burr carriage, clean the chute and the dose path, and check that the motor draws normal current before I put it back together. Guessing at a new grinder assembly when the old one just needs cleaning is how a repair bill gets bigger than it should.

We also see water tank sensor trouble on Oracle machines around Belmont, usually in homes that top off the tank with filtered water from a fridge dispenser instead of the tap. The float or the contact under the tank reacts a little differently to that water, and the machine starts throwing a false empty warning. It is usually a five minute fix once we know that is the cause.
