Atosa in East Palo Alto
Atosa commercial service.
East Palo Alto is a working-family city, and the food service reflects it. Taquerias, mercados, and family-run restaurants line University Avenue and Bay Road, serving a dense rental-housing population that eats out on a budget, not a Peninsula tech-campus expense account. Atosa is the refrigeration I find behind almost every one of those counters, because it's priced for a kitchen that can't absorb a big equipment loss.
That means downtime here isn't a minor inconvenience, it's real money for a small operator. The failure points I see most are reach-in door gaskets worn from a busy taqueria line opening the box constantly through service, and prep table drain lines clogging under the volume of food moving across the rail every day. Neither one is exotic. Both are the kind of wear a budget unit shows first.
Atosa runs R290 propane refrigerant, so anything past the gasket, into the sealed system, needs a hydrocarbon-licensed tech. I hold that license, and I try to keep the repair, not a replacement, on the table whenever the fix is realistic for a small shop's budget.
Common repairs we do
What we close on the truck.
- MBF reach-in door gasket and defrost. Constant door opening on a busy taqueria line stretches the gasket, warm air gets in, and the evaporator ices over. We replace the gasket, clear the ice, and check the seal across the full door.
- MGF prep-table drain-line clog. Heavy daily food volume clogs the condensate line faster than a slower kitchen would see. We clear the line and add a screen where the setup allows it.
- Evaporator fan motor replacement. A frequent fail point under daily heavy use. We carry the common sizes on the truck so it's usually done in one visit.

FAQ
Atosa in East Palo Alto questions, answered.
-
What does a repair actually cost, and are there hidden fees?
The diagnostic is $99, waived if you book the repair with us. We give a written quote before we start any work, so you know the number before you commit to it. -
Do you cover East Palo Alto, or is it out of your way?
We keep a technician based on the Peninsula, in San Mateo County, so East Palo Alto isn't out of the way for us. I don't promise same-day, but you get a written arrival window, and most calls here get scheduled within a day or two. -
Is it worth fixing my old Atosa unit or should I just save up for a new one?
For most of what I see, fixing it makes more sense. A gasket, a drain line, or a fan motor is a one-visit repair on a platform that's held up well, and it costs a fraction of new equipment. I'd only tell you to replace it if the compressor's already gone on a unit that's had a hard life.
