I check the defrost sequence and the valve solenoid. We replace the failed part so the unit switches between heat and cool cleanly.
- Furnace blower motor and capacitor wear. Castro Valley furnaces run a lot in the cool months and the blower motor and its capacitor wear out. We test the motor amps and the capacitor, then replace to spec so airflow stays strong and the heat exchanger does not overheat.
- Refrigerant leak at the evaporator coil. Older American Standard and Trane evaporator coils develop pinhole leaks and the system slowly loses cooling. We leak-check with electronic detection, confirm the coil, and replace it, then weigh in the proper charge.
