San Carlos calls come from two directions. The first is the small apartment buildings tucked behind and above the shops on Laurel Street, where a landlord furnished the unit kitchens with basic appliances built to survive tenant turnover, not to impress anyone. The second is the older bungalow streets in White Oaks and Devonshire, where a house from the 60s or 70s still runs its original-era Amana range or fridge because nobody's had a reason to replace it.
