Wolf Oven Error Codes: What the Four-Digit M Series Codes Mean

A Wolf M Series wall oven showing a four-digit error code? Here's how to read it, the full code list from Wolf's service manual, and which few steps are safe for an owner.

By 6 min read

A Wolf M Series wall oven reports a fault as a four-digit code with a short phrase, and it sounds a fault tone the first time it shows it. The code tells a technician where to start. It doesn’t tell you which part to buy.

The list below comes from Wolf’s service manual for M Series SO30 and DO30 wall ovens with the refreshed control, serial number 22607000 and later (document 830805, revision B, February 2023). E Series ovens, older M Series controls and Wolf ranges use different lists. If your oven is older, the code can mean something else.

If the oven keeps heating when it shouldn’t, smells burned or has tripped its breaker, stop using it. Switch it off at the breaker if you can do that safely, and book service. If there’s smoke or fire, get out and call 911.

How to read the code

Each code has four characters. In Wolf’s table the third character matches the priority, and the last one says which oven:

  • Priority 1 is the top level. While a priority 1 fault is active, even the kitchen timer is unavailable.
  • Priority 2 and 3 are lower. The oven still logs them.
  • Last digit 1 is the upper oven of a double, or the only oven. Last digit 2 is the lower oven. 0 means the fault isn’t tied to one oven.

So 3221 is a priority 2 fault in the upper oven, and 3222 is the same fault in the lower oven.

The oven logs every fault in memory, keeps the last 20, and shows only one active fault per oven at a time. A technician can read that history, so the code you saw isn’t lost if it clears.

What the code families point to

  • 00xx and 10xx (drive shorted or open): the relay board output for an element, fan, light or the door lock. Wolf’s step for most of these is replacing the relay board.
  • 20xx to 2Exx (circuit faults): relay board sensing circuits and supply voltages.
  • 30xx to 3Axx: the meat probe (3031, 3032), the oven temperature sensor (3121 to 3222), the thermal cutoff (3311, 3312), the door lock (3421 to 3722) and element wiring (3821 to 3A20).
  • 3B20, 3C20 and 3D20: low voltage, high voltage or the wrong frequency coming into the oven. That’s the house supply, not the oven.
  • 40xx to 4Axx (load missing or stalled): the board sent power and nothing drew it, so an element, fan, bulb or the door lock may be open. 4910 and 4A10 are stalled cooling fans.
  • 50xx to 53xx: the oven or a control board got hotter than it should.
  • 60xx to 9xxx and Bxxx: communication, configuration, display, keypad and touch screen faults between the control boards.

The few steps that are safe for an owner

Wolf’s service table lists only a handful of first steps that don’t involve opening the oven:

  • Oven light codes 0731 and 0732: turn the power off and back on.
  • Bulb codes 4731 and 4732: check the bulb, using the steps in your use and care guide.
  • Supply codes 3B20 and 3C20: the voltage coming in is low or high. Note anything else in the house acting up and tell us when you book.
  • Display and communication codes such as 8110, 9010, 6320, B120 and B220: Wolf’s first step is resetting the electrical supply, which for an owner means the breaker.

Only reset the breaker if none of the warning signs above is present and you can reach the right breaker safely. Note whether the code clears and whether it comes back. If it returns, a reset won’t fix it. Don’t open panels, test wiring or try to reset an internal safety device.

Other Wolf appliances

The list above is for M Series wall ovens only. Other Wolf appliances use their own codes and their own owner checks:

What to send when you book

Photograph the whole display before you clear the code. Save the model and serial number from your paperwork or the serial tag, and write down what the oven was doing: the mode, the set temperature, whether it was preheating, cooking or self-cleaning, and whether it happened more than once.

Send that with your request through our contact page. We repair Wolf ovens across the Bay Area as an independent Wolf specialist, not a dealer. If your oven is still under Wolf’s warranty, Wolf sends its own Factory Certified Service, so call them first. Out of warranty, the $99 diagnostic is credited toward the repair, and you get a written estimate before any work starts. FAQ

Common questions.

How do I reset a Wolf oven error code?
For a few codes Wolf's own first step is to turn the power off and back on at the breaker. Only do it if the oven isn't overheating, smelling burned or tripping the breaker. If the same code comes back, stop using that oven and book service. A reset doesn't fix a failed part.
What does Wolf oven error 3221 mean?
3221 is an open temperature sensor (RTD) in the upper or single oven. 3222 is the same fault in the lower oven. Wolf's service step is to check the sensor circuit and replace the sensor if it tests bad.
Do these codes apply to every Wolf oven?
No. This list is from Wolf's service manual for M Series SO30 and DO30 wall ovens with the refreshed control, serial number 22607000 and later. E Series ovens, older M Series controls and ranges use different lists.
