That matters when a customer says the range is “not working.” A burner that clicks without a flame, an oven that takes too long to heat, and an oven that loses temperature during a mode are separate observations.

Start with the burner symptom
When the range is cool, note whether one burner or several are affected. Does the igniter click? Is there a visible spark? Does the flame light and then go out? Does the burner light but have an uneven flame? These details point to different parts of the ignition and gas path without naming a failed component.
Check that the control knob is fully in the expected position and that a pot or grate is not interfering with the burner area. If the guide permits cleaning the burner cap, let the surface cool and follow that method. A cap that is not seated after cleaning can change the flame pattern.
Do not scrape the igniter with a sharp tool. Do not pour liquid into the burner. Do not keep turning the knob if the burner does not light. If you smell gas, turn the control off, avoid switches or flames, ventilate only if it is safe, and follow the home’s gas safety procedure.
Burner flame observations
Record the shape and color of the flame without leaning over it. A flame that is weak, lifting, noisy, or uneven can relate to the cap, burner ports, gas supply, air mix, or another condition. A burner that works after the cap is reseated has not proved that the assembly is healthy; it has only given you a useful observation.
Compare the affected burner with one that works normally, but do not move parts between burners unless the owner guide specifically allows that care step. Oven heat and temperature clues
For the oven, record the selected mode, the set temperature, the preheat indication, and what the food or thermometer showed. Note whether the cavity warms at all, whether the problem appears after preheat, and whether it occurs in one mode or several. Do not open the door repeatedly to chase the temperature. That changes the condition you are trying to describe.
The DF366 oven may use an electric heating system, a temperature sensor, a control board, cooling airflow, and mode-specific relays. A heating element can fail open, a sensor can report incorrectly, and a control can stop applying power. Those are technician observations, not homeowner tests.
If the oven shows a message or unusual indicator, record it exactly. Do not invent a code meaning from a different Wolf model. The same letter or icon can mean something different across generations.
Control and power observations
Check whether the display and normal lights work. If the range lost power, record what happened before the symptom appeared. Do not remove the electrical cover or reset a breaker repeatedly. A breaker that trips again is a reason to stop using the affected circuit and call a qualified professional.
For the surface, a click without ignition can reflect the control, spark path, burner, or gas condition. For the oven, a working display does not prove that every heating circuit is receiving power. The useful handoff is a short timeline of what the range does, what it does not do, and whether the same symptom returns.
What the technician checks
An in-person visit can include safe burner observation, gas and ignition checks, electrical supply verification, oven heating tests, sensor evaluation, and control diagnosis. The technician can also compare the model number with the correct service information. The repair recommendation should follow those findings.
The written estimate comes after diagnosis and before repair work. It should identify the area being addressed without bundling unrelated symptoms into a vague promise. If a second issue appears, it should be explained separately.
Keep the two systems separate
Write the surface and oven notes on different lines. For the surface, include the burner position, click or spark behavior, flame shape, and whether the cap was visibly seated. For the oven, include the mode, display, preheat behavior, rack position, and cooking result. This prevents a working oven from being treated as evidence that the gas ignition system is sound, or the other way around.
Also record whether the problem began after cleaning, a spill, a power event, or a move. A control that responds normally but a burner that does not ignite is a different path from a display that resets while the oven is heating. A short timeline helps the technician test the condition without repeating unsafe experiments.
Do not move pans or burner parts around to make the symptom change. If a normal cleaning step changes the result, record that fact and stop if the range still behaves abnormally.
Safety first
Gas and 240-volt appliance work is not a DIY project. Do not open panels, bypass an igniter or safety device, test live wiring, adjust gas pressure, or move the range away from the wall. Keep children away from a burner that is clicking or a door that is not closing normally.
