The Wolf CG365PS is a gas cooktop, so a burner complaint has both a flame side and an ignition side. “It clicks,” “it will not light,” and “the flame goes out” are not interchangeable descriptions. The most useful first step is to record the exact behavior with the control off afterward.

Sort the ignition complaint
When the cooktop is cool, identify whether one burner or several have changed. Record whether you hear a click, see a spark, smell gas, get a flame, or get no response. Note whether the burner lights immediately or only after repeated attempts. Stop testing if the burner does not light normally.
If a flame appears and then goes out, say that separately from a burner that never lights. A flame that is uneven or noisy is another observation. The same visible symptom can follow a cap that is out of position, a blocked port, moisture, an ignition problem, a gas-supply condition, or a control problem.
Safe checks when the surface is cool
Make sure the knob is fully off before looking closely. Check that a removable burner cap is sitting in its normal position and that no food residue is visibly bridging the burner area. If the owner guide allows cleaning, use the recommended method and let every part dry before trying the burner again.
Do not use a needle to open ports. Do not scrape the ceramic igniter. Do not spray cleaner into the burner or pour water across the cooktop. A sharp tool can change the port shape, and liquid can create a new ignition fault.
Compare the affected burner with a working one from a safe distance. The comparison can include the cap position and visible cleanliness. Do not exchange components between burners unless the exact guide says that the part is interchangeable.
Reading flame behavior
A healthy flame should follow the operating description in the owner guide. If one side is taller, the flame lifts, the burner lights with a delayed whoosh, or the flame repeatedly goes out, turn the control off and record the detail. Do not lean over the burner or test with a loose paper or cloth.
A weak flame can be related to the cap, ports, supply, regulator, or another part of the gas path. A burner that lights only when another burner is on needs the same careful record. Avoid the temptation to adjust an orifice or pressure setting. Those are not homeowner adjustments.
Continuous clicking and moisture
The igniter can respond to moisture or residue. If a spill occurred, follow the owner’s cleaning and drying instructions. Never use a household heat gun. If the clicking continues when the surface is dry and the cap is correctly seated, treat that as a service clue.
Record whether the clicking occurs with one knob or several, whether a flame is present, and whether it continues after the control is turned off. Do not unplug an appliance or remove a panel to silence it. If the click is accompanied by a gas smell or a visible damaged wire, stop using the cooktop and follow the home’s safety procedure.
What a technician checks
An in-person diagnosis can examine burner and cap condition, ignition output, wiring, control behavior, gas supply, and the safety response. The technician can also compare the model number with the correct parts and service information. A part should be selected only after the evidence supports it.
The written estimate arrives after diagnosis and before repair work. It should state whether the proposed work addresses ignition, a burner assembly, a supply condition, or another finding. If the cooktop has a second symptom, keep it separate so approval remains clear.
One burner versus the whole cooktop
The number of affected burners is an important first split. One burner with a changed flame invites a different inspection from several burners that click or fail together. Record whether the affected burners are next to each other, whether the display or controls respond normally, and whether the symptom began after a spill or cleaning.
Keep the comparison simple. A working burner can show what normal clicking or flame appearance looks like, but it does not prove that the affected burner uses the same path. Do not swap caps, igniters, or parts unless the exact manual permits it. A part that looks interchangeable may not be safe in the other position.
If the burner works once and fails later, note the pattern instead of repeating it many times. Intermittent ignition can be more useful to diagnose when the technician knows the conditions that produced it.
Gas safety is the boundary
Do not open the cooktop, test live ignition wiring, adjust gas pressure, remove an orifice, or bypass a safety device. If gas odor persists, leave the area and use the local emergency procedure. Keep the surface clear while a burner is being evaluated.
