THERMADOR REFRIGERATOR · REDWOOD CITY
Thermador refrigerator not cooling in Redwood City? We fix it.
Thermador's use and care guides for Freedom refrigerators (document 9001926640 for the T36IT100NP built-in, 8001161976 for the T23IR to T36IR fresh food columns) list a few causes an owner can rule out first: demo mode left on, covered ventilation openings, a door opened too often. If those check out, the cause is inside the refrigerator and needs a diagnosis.
We handle Thermador refrigerator not cooling repairs across Redwood City, from Redwood Shores, Emerald Hills, Mount Carmel to the surrounding neighborhoods. Redwood City is core Peninsula territory for us, covered by the technician who lives in San Mateo County rather than driven in from San Ramon. We route it with San Carlos, Menlo Park, and Atherton.

Why this happens
What we look for first.
- Demo mode is switched on. Thermador lists this first when the refrigerator is not cooling but the display and lights work. In demo mode the cooling is switched off and everything else keeps running, so do not store food in it. On the T36IT100NP the setting is under Service, Advanced Service, Demo Mode. On the columns it is in the appliance settings menu. Your model's guide has the exact steps.
- Ventilation openings are covered. When the refrigeration unit runs more often and for longer, Thermador's guides say to remove anything in front of the external ventilation openings. The column guide also says to vacuum the ventilation openings once a year.
- Heat around the cabinet. Thermador says to keep the appliance as far as possible from heating elements, cookers and other heat sources, and out of long direct sunlight. A built-in can't move, but if a range sits close by or sun hits it for hours, tell us when you book.
- Doors opened often or warm food loaded. Thermador's guides say to open the doors only as briefly as needed and to let hot food and drinks cool before they go in. Before loading a large amount of fresh food, the column guide says to switch on super cooling.
- Temperature far from the setting. Thermador's step is to switch the appliance off for about 5 minutes and back on. If it is too warm, check again after a couple of hours. If it is still far off after that, book a diagnosis.
- A message with D or E on the display. Thermador says this means the electronics detected a fault. Its owner step is to switch the appliance off, disconnect the power by unplugging it or switching off the breaker, and reconnect after 5 minutes. If the message comes back, write it down and book service.

How we diagnose and fix it
The walk-in workflow.
- 01
We start at the display: the set temperatures, any alarm or message with a D or E, and whether demo mode is on.
- 02
We check what Thermador's guides ask of the installation: clear ventilation openings, no heat source or long direct sun on the cabinet, and doors that close.
- 03
We measure the temperature in each compartment and compare it with the setting.
- 04
If the cause is inside the refrigerator, we test the part we suspect before we name it.
- 05
You get one written price for the repair before any work starts.
Serving Redwood City
Redwood City: response and coverage.
Redwood City is core Peninsula territory for us, covered by the technician who lives in San Mateo County rather than driven in from San Ramon. We route it with San Carlos, Menlo Park, and Atherton.
Neighborhoods we cover regularly in Redwood City: Redwood Shores, Emerald Hills, Mount Carmel. Beyond those, our service area in Redwood City covers the city limits.
Redwood City is the San Mateo County seat and covers a wide stretch of housing: mid-century family homes in the flatlands, hillside estates in Emerald Hills, and newer condo towers around Redwood Shores and the tech offices that came with them. Residential kitchens run GE, Whirlpool, and Samsung in the older neighborhoods, stepping up to Sub-Zero, Wolf, and Thermador in Emerald Hills and the newer Redwood Shores builds. Downtown around the theatre district and the restaurants near it, plus Redwood Shores office food service, keep commercial refrigeration busy.

FAQ
Thermador refrigerator in Redwood City questions.
-
My Thermador refrigerator is not cooling but the lights and display work. Why?
Thermador's use and care guides list demo mode first. In demo mode the cooling is switched off and everything else works. Switch it off in the settings menu, using the steps in your model's guide. If demo mode is off and it still won't cool, book a diagnosis. -
What does a D or E message on a Thermador refrigerator mean?
Thermador's guide says the electronics detected a fault. Its owner step is to switch the appliance off, disconnect the power by unplugging it or switching off the breaker, and reconnect after 5 minutes. If the message is still there, book service. Write the message down before you reset anything. -
What should I do with the food if the refrigerator warms up?
Thermador's guide covers this for a power failure: open the appliance as little as possible, and throw out frozen food that has thawed and is warmer than 41°F (5°C). Slightly thawed frozen food can be cooked, then eaten or frozen again. -
Is my Thermador refrigerator still under warranty?
Check your purchase date against Thermador's warranty for your model. If it is still covered, call Thermador first so its own service handles it. Out of warranty, we repair Thermador refrigerators as an independent service, not a dealer. The $99 diagnostic is credited toward the repair.
