LG DRYER · LOS ALTOS HILLS

LG dryer not heating in Los Altos Hills? We fix it.

An LG dryer that tumbles but runs the load out cold is one of the most common laundry calls we take. The failure list on these is short and predictable, and we work it in a set order so we are not guessing.

Why this happens

What we look for first.

  • Blown thermal fuse (DLE series). LG electric dryers carry a thermal fuse on the heater housing that opens for good once it trips. When it blows the dryer still tumbles and the timer counts down, but no heat ever comes on. Nine times out of ten the fuse blew because the vent was clogged and the unit overheated, so we never just swap the fuse and walk. We replace the fuse and clear the restriction, or it blows again in a week.
  • Open heating element assembly. The heating element is a coil inside a metal can at the back of the cabinet. The coil sags, touches the housing, and either grounds out or breaks open. A broken coil reads infinite resistance on the meter and gives you a stone-cold load. We test the element terminal to terminal, and if it is open we replace the full assembly, not a patched coil.
  • Failed thermistor the board reads. LG dryers do not use a simple cycling thermostat for temperature. The control board reads a thermistor and decides when to fire the element. When the thermistor drifts or opens, the board reads a false cold or throws a tE error and cuts heat to protect itself. We check the thermistor resistance against the LG spec at room temp before condemning anything else.
  • Tripped or thermostat-style high limit. On the heater housing there is a high-limit thermostat that cuts the element if temperature runs away. Like the thermal fuse, it usually opens because of poor airflow from a packed vent or a failed blower. The dryer keeps tumbling with no heat. We test it for continuity, replace it if open, and always chase the airflow cause behind it.
  • Main control board not firing the relay. The board carries a relay that sends voltage to the heating circuit. When that relay fails or the board has a bad solder joint, every heater component tests good but no heat reaches the element. This is the one we rule the cheaper parts out for first, because a board is the bigger spend. We confirm with voltage at the element before quoting a board.
  • Gas valve coils (gas DLG models). On gas LG dryers the no-heat cause is usually the igniter or the gas valve solenoid coils. The igniter glows but the coils fail to open the valve, so it never lights, or the igniter itself is cracked and dark. You hear the dryer tumble with no flame. We test the coils and igniter and replace the failed part, then confirm a clean light-off.

How we diagnose and fix it

The walk-in workflow.

  1. 01

Confirm the symptom: tumbles and counts down but the load comes out cold, and check for any tE or other error code on the panel.

  2. 02

Pull the back panel and meter the thermal fuse and high-limit thermostat for continuity. Open parts get replaced and the airflow cause gets chased.

  3. 03

Test the heating element terminal to terminal for an open or grounded coil.

  4. 04

Check the thermistor resistance against LG spec at room temperature to rule the sensor in or out.

  5. 05

If every heater part tests good, check for voltage at the element. No voltage points to the control board relay.

Pricing and warranty

What it costs. What we stand behind.

  • $75

Diagnostic visit. Waived when you book the repair with us.

  • Typical

Most no-heat fixes land in the $190 to $360 range parts and labor. A thermal fuse or high-limit with a vent clear-out is at the low end, a heating element assembly or thermistor in the middle, gas valve coils similar. A main control board runs higher, usually $350 to $500 depending on the model. We quote in writing first, before any part goes in.

  • Warranty

You get a parts-and-labor warranty in writing before we start any work. Figure around 90 days on consumable parts like fuses and thermostats, and 1 year on major components like the heating element, thermistor, gas valve, or control board. We put the numbers and the coverage on paper first so there are no surprises.

FAQ

LG dryer in Los Altos Hills questions.

  • My LG dryer tumbles fine but the clothes come out cold and damp. What is that?
Tumbling means the motor and belt are fine, so the problem is in the heating circuit. The most common causes are a blown thermal fuse, an open heating element, or a thermistor the board has lost track of. A blown fuse almost always traces back to a clogged vent, so that gets cleared too. We can sort which one it is in about half an hour on site.
  • Is it worth fixing or should I just replace the dryer?
If the fix is a fuse, thermostat, element, or thermistor, repair is the clear call. Those parts run a few hundred dollars installed against eight hundred or more for a comparable new LG. The one case where we talk replacement is an old unit that also needs a control board, where the board cost starts approaching a new machine. We give you both numbers in writing so you can decide.
  • Why did my thermal fuse blow in the first place?
Almost always restricted airflow. A packed lint filter, a clogged vent run, or a crushed transition hose makes the dryer overheat, and the thermal fuse does its job by cutting the heat for good. If we just replace the fuse without clearing the restriction, it blows again fast. That is why we check and clear the vent as part of the repair, not as an upsell.
