Atosa reach-in compressor replacement in San Jose
Problem: A food business in San Jose bought a used Atosa three-door reach-in refrigerator. Within six months it started warming up, as high as 78°F. They’d switch it off and let it reset, but it kept heating up again. There’s a “Keep food cold below 41°F” card on one of the doors. At 78°F it was nowhere close.
Diagnostics: The nameplate reads MBF8006, built in January 2017, running R134a. The compressor and condenser sit on top of the cabinet. We pulled the start components off the compressor and tested the compressor directly. It had failed. Testing it that way takes the start relay out of the picture, so the fault was in the compressor itself. Its label reads Embraco FFI 12HBX, dated September 2016. The repair plan was a new compressor, new start components and a new filter drier. The customer approved it.
Solution: Three days after the diagnosis, we came back and replaced the failed compressor. The new one is the same Embraco model, brazed into the refrigerant lines. That makes it sealed-system work, not a plug-in part.
Result: The new compressor is in. If an older Atosa MBF keeps warming up, check the refrigerant on its nameplate. This 2017 unit runs R134a, and a replacement compressor has to match it.
