Williams in Saratoga

Williams heating and cooling in Saratoga.

Saratoga's older village-area homes and the houses tucked into the foothills off Big Basin Way often started with a single Williams wall or floor furnace. Many of these mid-century homes never added central ducts, so that one unit still carries the house. We service them and keep them safe.

Saratoga sits against the Santa Cruz foothills and runs cooler than the valley floor, especially in the shaded canyon properties, so these homes lean hard on their furnace through winter. That steady use wears pilots, thermocouples, and gas valves, and I carry those parts to fix the common failures in one trip.

The larger Saratoga estates that want even heat across many rooms outgrow a single wall furnace, and we will discuss zoned or ductless options honestly. But where a Williams unit fits the home, we repair it properly or replace it with the correct model.

Common repairs we do

What we close on the truck.

  • Thermocouple wear from heavy winter use. Saratoga's cooler foothill climate keeps the furnace running long, which wears the thermocouple until the main burner will not stay on. I read the millivolt output cold and hot and replace the thermocouple with the correct length so the tip seats properly in the pilot flame.
  • Floor furnace pilot fouling. The older Saratoga homes with Williams floor furnaces collect debris in the grille well, fouling the pilot and giving unreliable ignition. I pull the unit, clean the well and pilot orifice, and confirm the pilot fully wraps the thermocouple before I reassemble.
  • Gas valve failure on aging units. Decades of cycling wear the Williams gas valve until it no longer opens reliably. I verify the limit and thermostat circuit are passing power, test the valve, and replace it with the correct Williams-spec valve set to proper gas pressure for safe, steady heat.

FAQ

Williams in Saratoga questions, answered.

  • Saratoga is well south of San Ramon, do you still come out?
Yes. Bay Area HVAC Service covers Saratoga and the South Bay. From San Ramon I take 680 south, usually 50 to 65 minutes depending on the Sunol grade. I batch Saratoga with Los Gatos and Los Altos Hills area calls so the trip is efficient and your window holds.
  • My Saratoga home has no ducts, can a wall furnace heat it well?
For a smaller or single-zone home, yes, a correctly sized Williams unit heats the central space without ductwork cost. For a larger foothill estate that wants even heat in every room, I will be honest and point you toward a zoned or ductless system instead.
  • What does the visit cost?
The diagnostic is $75 and waived with the repair. You get a written quote before work starts. Repairs are warranted 1 year, and a new Williams install carries 10 year parts and 10 year labor.
