Williams in Palo Alto
Williams heating and cooling in Palo Alto.
Palo Alto's older neighborhoods, Professorville and the streets around Crescent Park, have Craftsman and period homes that often run a single Williams wall furnace. Many of the Eichler homes near Greer and south Palo Alto used in-wall or floor furnaces too, because the flat-roof, slab design left no good path for traditional ducts. We service all of these.
Palo Alto's bay-moderated climate is mild, so the heating load is gentle and steady rather than extreme. The Williams failures here are mostly age-related, worn pilots and tired valves, which means a clean repair usually returns the unit to good service for years.
Eichler owners in particular call us because their slab homes have limited heating options and a wall furnace is part of the original design. We respect that and we repair or replace with the correct Williams model rather than pushing an oversized retrofit.
Common repairs we do
What we close on the truck.
- Eichler wall furnace pilot dropout. In the Palo Alto Eichlers the Williams wall furnace runs as the main heat and the standing pilot eventually drops out from a weak thermocouple or clogged orifice. I clean the orifice, confirm a steady pilot flame, and replace the thermocouple so the gas valve holds open through the full cycle.
- Gas valve no longer opening. On the older Professorville Craftsman units the Williams gas valve gives out after decades of mild but constant winter use. I check the thermostat and limit circuit, test the valve coil and body, and replace it with the correct Williams-spec valve at proper manifold pressure.
- Weak heat output from a fouled burner. Dust and age build up on the burner ports and cut the unit's output, so a room that used to warm up quickly now lags. I pull and clean the burner, check the orifice, and verify an even flame, then confirm the unit reaches temperature on a full run.

FAQ
Williams in Palo Alto questions, answered.
-
Palo Alto is across the bay from San Ramon, do you still come out?
Yes. Bay Area HVAC Service covers Palo Alto and the Mid-Peninsula. From San Ramon I take 680 to 880 or 280, usually 45 to 55 minutes. I batch Palo Alto with Los Altos and Atherton-area calls so the drive is efficient and your arrival window is real. -
I have an Eichler, can you work on its wall furnace?
Yes. Eichler slab homes were designed around in-wall and floor furnaces, and a Williams unit is a correct fit. We repair the pilot, thermocouple, and valve, and when one is past service life we replace it with the right model rather than forcing an awkward duct retrofit. -
What is the diagnostic charge?
The diagnostic is $75 and I waive it with the repair. You get a written quote first. Repairs carry a 1 year warranty and a new Williams install is 10 year parts and 10 year labor.
