Slow or noisy fan on fan-assisted models. Some Mountain View homes have the fan-assisted Williams Monterey wall units. The blower motor bearings dry out and the fan gets loud or barely moves air. I check the motor and capacitor, lubricate or replace the motor, and clear the air path so the unit moves the heat it makes.
Gas valve fails to open. After decades of cycling the Williams gas valve coil or internal diaphragm gives out and the main burner never lights even with a good pilot. I verify the limit and thermostat circuit, test the valve, and replace it with the correct Williams-spec valve set to proper manifold pressure.
