- Floor furnace will not ignite. Moraga has more Williams floor furnaces than most towns and the old standing-pilot floor units collect dust and pet hair down in the grille well. That fouls the pilot and pilot tubing. I pull the unit, clean the pilot assembly and burner, and replace the thermocouple if the holding signal is weak.
- Thermocouple dropout in cold snaps. When Moraga nights drop into the 30s the gas valve sees more demand and a marginal thermocouple finally gives out. The pilot lights but the main burner will not stay on. I measure the millivolt output cold and hot and swap the thermocouple for the correct length so the tip sits properly in the pilot flame.
- Weak or uneven floor furnace heat. Old gravity floor furnaces rely on rising warm air, and a clogged burner or partly blocked grille cuts output. I clean the burner ports, check the orifice sizing, and clear the grille well. If the cast heat exchanger is cracked, which happens on these older floor units, I quote a replacement because there is no safe repair.

Can you work on a Williams floor furnace, not just the wall type?
Yes. Moraga has a lot of floor furnaces and we service both. The pilot, thermocouple, and gas valve work is similar, but the floor units need the grille pulled and the well cleaned. I check the heat exchanger every time because a cracked floor furnace exchanger is a safety stop. -
Do you offer a warranty on the repair?
Repairs come with a 1 year warranty. If we install a new Williams unit it is 10 year parts and 10 year labor. You get the diagnostic, which is $75 and waived with the repair, and a written quote before I touch anything.
