Whirlpool in Piedmont
Whirlpool in Piedmont kitchens.
Piedmont's housing stock is largely 1910s and 1920s construction, and the appliances live in spaces designed a century before them. Refrigerators sit in alcoves with two inches of clearance, laundry hides in stacked closets or basements, and vent runs snake through old walls. Whirlpool machines are common here, and most of the failures I see in Piedmont are really the house and the machine fighting each other.
ADRIUM Service Solutions comes through the Caldecott from San Ramon, about 35 minutes door to door. I hold CSLB #1136642 and EPA Section 608 Universal certification. Every job starts with a $75 diagnostic and ends with a written quote. Approve the repair and the diagnostic is free, and the work carries a 1-year parts and labor warranty.

Common repairs we do
What we close on the truck.
- Condenser choke on refrigerators in tight alcoves. A Whirlpool fridge packed into a 1920s alcove cannot shed heat, the condenser coil mats over with dust, and eventually the compressor overload starts clicking on hot afternoons. I deep-clean the coil, test the condenser fan, and check compressor draw. Where the alcove is the real problem I say so and suggest clearance fixes, because a new compressor in a starved alcove dies the same death.
- Overheating dryers on long old-house vent runs. Piedmont basement and closet laundry setups often vent through 20-plus feet of original ducting with hidden crush points. The dryer overheats, the thermal cutoff opens, and heat is gone. I replace the cutoff and high-limit as a kit, then measure exhaust airflow, because the duct is the disease and the fuse is only the symptom.
- Failed heating elements leaving dishwasher loads wet. Dishes come out clean but soaked, and heated dry does nothing. On Whirlpool dishwashers the cal-rod heating element burns open with age, and hard-water scale accelerates it. I ohm the element, replace it, and check the high-limit thermostat in the same visit. In older Piedmont kitchens I also verify the circuit, since these homes sometimes share loads in ways modern kitchens do not.

FAQ
Whirlpool in Piedmont questions, answered.
-
How does Piedmont fit into your route from San Ramon?
It is about 35 minutes via 680 and Highway 24 through the Caldecott Tunnel. I run Piedmont on inner East Bay days together with Oakland, Berkeley, and Orinda on the way back, so there are usually two or three windows a week to choose from. -
Can you get a built-in refrigerator out of a tight alcove without damaging the floors?
Yes. Sliding a fridge out of a century-old alcove over original hardwood is routine here. I use protective runners and take the time to do it right, and most repairs on these units can be done with the machine only partially pulled. -
Do you charge extra for older homes or difficult access?
No. The diagnostic is a flat $75 regardless of how awkward the appliance placement is, and it is waived when you approve the repair. If access genuinely adds labor to the job, that shows up as a line in the written quote before you commit, never as a surprise after.
