Hercules is mostly two-story homes: the 1970s and 1980s subdivisions along Refugio Valley Road, plus newer builds like Victoria by the Bay and Olympian Hills. When a U-Line undercounter ice maker goes into an island or a bar in one of those houses, there is rarely a floor drain close by, so the machine drains through a small pump instead of by gravity. That pump is a wear part, and it is often the first thing to quit.
EBMUD water here is soft to moderate, so heavy scale is not the usual story on a Hercules ice maker. - Drain pump that hums, backs up or shuts the unit down. When the pump fails, melt water has nowhere to go, the bin floods and the ice maker stops itself. We clear the drain line, test the pump, replace it if it is dead or weak, and run water through until it empties cleanly into the house drain.
- Beverage center fan noise and warm shelves. A noisy evaporator or condenser fan usually means a worn motor or ice ticking the blade. We find which fan it is, replace the motor from the stock we carry for the 2000 and 3000 series, and check that the shelves come back to temperature.
- Dual-zone wine unit that lost its split. The damper actuator on 2218 and 3036 series units fails open and lets both zones drift to the same reading. We fit a new actuator and reset the sensors so reds and whites each hold their own temperature again.

Our U-Line ice maker is in an upstairs bar in a Hercules two-story. Is a drain pump normal there?
Yes. With no floor drain upstairs, the ice maker needs a pump to lift melt water to the sink drain. Pumps wear out, and the check valve or the line can clog with slime. We clean the line and replace the pump when it will not move water. -
We live in one of the new Hercules Bayfront apartments. Can you work on the U-Line inside the building?
Yes. Tell us about parking, the elevator and any building rules when you book, and whether the property manager needs to sign off. The repair happens in your kitchen, with the unit slid out onto a protective pad. -
With EBMUD water, does a U-Line ice maker still need cleaning?
It does, just less often than on a mineral-heavy supply. Slime and a thin film of minerals still build in the water path. A cleaning cycle once or twice a year keeps harvests steady, and our technician can show you how to run it on the visit.
