Sub-Zero in Portola Valley
Sub-Zero in Portola Valley kitchens.
Portola Valley custom homes on wooded acreage off Alpine Road and Portola Road, 94028, run Sub-Zero 48-inch built-ins and 36-inch BI columns as the anchor of an estate kitchen built with panel-ready everything. The mid-century modern houses in the Ladera-adjacent pockets tend to run older Classic-series Sub-Zero units original to a remodel from the 2000s, which puts a lot of these compressors and dispenser boards squarely in failure-window territory now. Ranch properties toward Skyline sometimes add a second column or drawer unit in an outdoor kitchen or converted barn, and that unit takes more thermal stress than the one indoors.
The 736TCI and 736TC dispenser-board failure is a regular Portola Valley call, same as anywhere this generation of Sub-Zero was installed. Sub-Zero stopped producing this board years ago, though a couple of independent board refurbishers we trust keep rebuilding it. Before ordering, we make sure the board itself has failed, because the dispenser switch and wiring harness throw off the same symptom and can waste $400 on the wrong part.
What the work looks like
A built-in sealed-system leak repair.
Common repairs we do
What we close on the truck.
- Sealed-system service on 600/700 series. The steps are the same every time: locate the leak on the compressor or evap side, recover the charge, weigh in new refrigerant, and hold a 24-hour vacuum before startup.
- Condenser coil cleaning and fan-motor swap. On Classic 36 and 48 inch units after grille block, more common on outdoor kitchen or barn-conversion installs where the unit collects more dust than one indoors.
- 736TCI / 736TC dispenser control board. The factory stopped making it, but a rebuilt version is out there. We confirm that's really the failing part before we place the order.
- Designer Series integrated column door alignment. Hinge cartridge wear, panel sag, and gasket seal recovery show up often on these older mid-century installs, where cabinetry has settled over the decades.

FAQ
Sub-Zero in Portola Valley questions, answered.
-
How quickly can you reach Portola Valley for a Sub-Zero service call?
We route Portola Valley with Hillsborough on the same Peninsula day, down I-680 south and onto CA-92 or I-280. From San Ramon that typically runs 50 to 60 minutes. We lock in the appointment window in writing and plan ahead for properties on the outer roads with less direct access. -
Do you carry common Sub-Zero parts for the units typical in Portola Valley?
Common gaskets, condenser and evap-fan motors, and 736TCI dispenser-board rebuilds through trusted refurbishers are all things we keep on hand. Compressors and evaporators get ordered per job instead, since sealed-system parts are unit-specific. -
What should I expect to pay for a Sub-Zero sealed-system or column-door repair in Portola Valley?
Diagnostic is $75, waived when you book the repair. A typical sealed-system repair runs $1,400 to $2,800 depending on leak location. We bill column-door alignment at a flat visit rate and put the quote in writing before starting the job. -
Is ADRIUM an authorized Sub-Zero service center?
No. Sub-Zero routes factory-certified warranty service through its own network, and we are not part of it. We are independent Sub-Zero specialists: this equipment is daily work for us, we follow the factory service procedures, and sealed-system rebuilds are done in-house under EPA #1279674151528 with a 2-year warranty on that work. The factory channel can book out during busy stretches. Because we run our own schedule, we can often get to Portola Valley sooner for out-of-warranty repairs. If your unit is still under Sub-Zero warranty, start with the factory line, that is what the warranty is for.
