- Blower motor bearing wear from nonstop run time. With the furnace cycling almost daily year round, the blower motor bearings wear faster than they would inland. I hear it as a growl or squeal before the motor seizes, and I replace the motor before it takes the board down with it.
- Hot-surface ignitor failure. A furnace that never really shuts down for summer puts more cycles on the ignitor than a normal duty cycle. The silicon-nitride element goes brittle and cracks, and you get a click with no flame. I carry the Ruud ignitor on the truck.
- Draft-inducer motor and pressure switch lockout. Fog means moisture, and moisture in the vent and inducer housing corrodes the pressure switch tubing and wears the inducer bearings. The furnace locks out safe rather than run without draft, and I replace the assembly and clear the lockout.
