- Hot-surface ignitor failure in conventional ranch furnaces. Cupertino's mid-century ranch furnaces crack their hot-surface ignitors after years of cycling. Click, delay, no heat. I carry the right ignitor for these Ruud units and confirm a clean light before I close up.
- Flame sensor fouling on short mild-climate cycles. The mild South Bay winter makes the furnace fire in short bursts, and the flame sensor films over until the burner drops out. I clean it to bare metal and reset the gap so it holds flame.
- Draft-inducer issues in tight Eichler mechanical spaces. Eichler and flat-roof homes squeeze the equipment into tight closets, and an inducer starting to whine there is heading for a lockout. I replace the Rheem inducer assembly and route it cleanly in the limited space.
