Mountain View is a real mix. You have small 1920s and 1940s bungalows near Castro Street, mid-century ranches in the Cuesta Park area, and a heavy stock of condos and townhomes closer to the tech campuses. The older homes sometimes still run wall furnaces or compact closet units, while the newer construction often went in with Rheem and Ruud forced-air systems.
The climate here is bay-moderated, so the AC load is lighter than the inland valleys, but the furnaces still see plenty of cool-morning cycles. On the condos I spend time confirming the closet air handler has proper combustion air and clearance.

- Flame sensor short-cycling. In the mild damp climate the Ruud flame rod fouls and the furnace lights then drops out after a few seconds. I clean or replace the sensor and read the microamp signal to confirm a steady flame.
- Closet air handler ignitor failure. On the townhome closet units the hot-surface ignitor cracks and the burner will not light. I replace it with the correct part and check the clearances and combustion air in the tight closet space.
- Condensate and pressure-switch faults. On Ruud high-efficiency units the condensate path clogs and trips the pressure switch, so the furnace locks out. I clear the drain and trap and verify the switch closes properly under draft.

Yes, we cover it. It is one of our longer runs, roughly 45 to 55 minutes over the Dumbarton or down 680, and we pair it with work in Sunnyvale, Los Altos, and Palo Alto so the routing makes sense. We book Peninsula jobs in blocks. -
My place is a small bungalow with an old wall furnace. Do you work on those?
We do. On the small older homes I can service the existing unit, and where it makes sense I will lay out a ductless or compact forced-air option since a lot of these bungalows have no real duct space. -
