What we close on the truck.

Outdoor coil fins pitted and corroding from salt air. Salt fog off the coast attacks the aluminum fins on an outdoor unit faster than inland air ever would. Once the fins pit and corrode enough, the coil loses heat exchange surface and the system runs longer cycles to keep up. I look at fin condition on every Pacifica call, not just when there is already a complaint.
Contactor and electrical connections failing early. The electrical contactor and wiring connections inside an outdoor unit's disconnect box corrode faster in salt air, and a corroded contact is a common reason a unit fails to start or cuts out intermittently. I check those connections before I assume the compressor or the board is the problem.
Refrigerant leak at a corroded flare fitting. A flare fitting on the line set that would hold for years inland can develop a slow leak in Pacifica once salt air gets to the copper and the fitting surface. I check fittings with a leak detector rather than just topping off charge, because topping off a corroded fitting just buys a little time before it leaks again.
