Gravity drain problems in retrofit installs. Older Piedmont homes rarely offer a proper drain where the ice machine went, so installers used long, flat runs or undersized pumps. Standing meltwater then mimics machine faults: refreezing, odors, harvest issues. We correct the drain path or condensate pump and the phantom machine problems disappear with it.
Filtered water confusing the thickness sensor. EBMUD water is already soft, and homes that add polishing filtration can push mineral content low enough that Manitowoc's conductivity probe stops sensing the water reliably. The machine faults on long freeze while nothing is broken. We tune the feed water setup so the sensor works and the ice stays clear.
Worn bin switches on decades-old undercounter units. Piedmont households keep equipment a long time, and the mechanical bin controls wear out before the refrigeration does. The machine stops early or overfills the bin. It is an inexpensive repair on a unit that often has years left, and we will confirm the rest of the machine is worth it before you spend.
