- Dump valve and float faults under banquet-volume cycling. A hotel machine running flat out before a large event puts more cycles through the dump valve and float sensor than a typical restaurant unit sees in a week. When one drifts out of spec the ice sequence gets thrown off right when the kitchen can least afford it.
- Harvest fault from scale buildup on high-cycle heads. Volume machines scale faster because they're making more ice on the same water hardness, and a scaled evaporator plate shows up as a slow harvest or a fault code during the exact rush it's needed most. I descale and verify the harvest valve together rather than one at a time.
- Water filter exhaustion on smaller retail and apartment units. Undercounter machines in the newer buildings near Ravenswood tend to run past their filter change interval because nobody's assigned to watch it, and cloudy or slow-forming ice is usually the first sign. It's a cheap fix if it's caught before it scales the machine underneath.

Is it worth repairing an older commercial ice machine or should we replace it?
Depends what's failed. A harvest valve, a curtain switch, or a scaled evaporator is worth fixing on almost any machine still running well otherwise. If the compressor's gone on an older unit, I'll tell you that plainly and let you weigh it against a new install.
