Almost always. Fans, sensors and controls are reached from the front, and an undercounter unit can usually slide forward out of its opening once any trim is released. If the counter was built tight around it, we plan for that and note it in the written quote.

When the grille and coil clog, the compressor runs nonstop and the cabinet still creeps warm. We clean the coil, test the fan and check that nothing in the cabinetry blocks the air path.
Pantry freezer growing frost on the packages. Frost on the food and shelves, rather than on the back wall, means humid air is getting in through the door. On a pantry freezer that is often a door that does not fully close after a quick grab, or a gasket that has flattened. We check the gasket, the door alignment and the closer, and replace what no longer seals.
Evaporator fan frozen in place on an older column. When defrost falls behind, ice can reach the evaporator fan blade and stop it. You may hear a scraping sound before it goes quiet, and then the fresh-food side warms up. We melt the ice, find out why defrost failed, and replace the heater, sensor or fan motor that caused it.
