KitchenAid in Portola Valley

KitchenAid in Portola Valley kitchens.

Portola Valley's main kitchens tend to run higher-end built-ins behind custom cabinetry, so KitchenAid mostly shows up in a secondary kitchen, a guest unit, or a lower level. The two calls we get most out here are the same as everywhere else in this price range, the KFGC commercial-style range and the KRFC built-in French-door fridge.

The KFGC complaint I hear most out here is uneven oven temperature, the setpoint says one number and the food cooks like it is a different one. We put a probe in the cavity and read actual temperature against the setpoint before touching anything, since it is usually a sensor or calibration issue and not a dead oven. On the built-in fridges, especially ones in a guest house that only gets used part of the year, we run the amp-draw and discharge-line check first, because a unit running warm after sitting mostly idle can look like a sealed-system failure without being one.

What the work looks like

A built-in sealed-system leak repair.

Nitrogen pressure and a soap-bubble test on a built-in fridge line set. We map every leak source before we braze.
The corroded copper up close. After fifteen-plus years this is why a real fix rebuilds the sealed run, so you do not pay the labor twice.

Brazing a new line onto the compressor during the same kind of sealed-system repair. Recover, braze, evacuate, and recharge: the real fix, done as one complete job.

What the work looks like

A dishwasher leaking from the pump and sump.

The base of a Whirlpool-family dishwasher, where the circulation pump, sump, and diverter live. A worn pump seal, a cracked sump, or the diverter lets water past and onto the floor.

Common repairs we do

What we close on the truck.

  • KFGC range oven temperature complaint. Food comes out hotter or more unevenly cooked than the dial indicates. We probe the cavity and compare actual to set temperature before we touch the sensor or recalibrate anything.
  • Built-in French-door fridge that won't hold temp. KRFC and KBFN units running warm, often in a part-time guest kitchen. We check amp draw, the discharge line, and run the manufacturer's program check before ordering parts.
  • Panel-ready fridge evaporator fan. The compressor runs but the fresh side never really pulls down. We swap the fan motor, test the harness, and check the defrost heater and drain at the same time.
  • KOSE wall oven bake element. No lower glow, the oven runs cold on bake, but the broiler still works. Usually a straightforward element swap, quicker if you have the model number ready when you book.

FAQ

KitchenAid in Portola Valley questions, answered.

  • How quickly can you get out to Portola Valley from San Ramon?
We block Peninsula days two to three times a week, and Portola Valley runs 50 to 60 minutes from San Ramon via 680 and 92 or 280 when a slot is open. Scheduled jobs get a written arrival time before we drive out.
  • My KitchenAid range runs hotter or cooks unevenly compared to the setting. What is that?
On the KFGC commercial-style ranges, that is usually the oven temperature sensor or a calibration drift rather than the burners or the whole oven failing. We confirm with a probe in the cavity, checking real temperature against your setpoint, before we replace anything.
