What we close on the truck.

Ice maker fill tube freezing shut. On a lot of San Mateo's older Whirlpool-built Kenmores, the small fill tube that feeds water into the ice mold freezes solid before the ice maker itself ever fails. The fix is thawing and insulating the tube properly rather than replacing a working ice maker module, which is where I start before ordering any part.
Water filter housing cracking and weeping. The plastic filter housing on side-by-side Kenmores gets brittle with age, and a small crack shows up as a slow drip inside the fresh food compartment rather than anywhere obvious. I pressure test the housing itself before assuming the water line or the filter cartridge is the problem.
Defrost heater burning out on high-use kitchens. Busy San Mateo households running a refrigerator hard, especially in the smaller original kitchens near downtown, wear out the defrost heater element faster than a lightly used unit would. Frost building up across the back wall of the freezer despite the compressor running fine is the tell, and I confirm the heater draws current before replacing it.
