Hoshizaki in Alameda
Hoshizaki commercial service.
Park Street and Webster Street pack a lot of bars and restaurants onto a small island, and most of the ice behind those counters comes out of a Hoshizaki KM cuber stuffed into a back room with no airflow. I see two problems over and over in Alameda: scale on the stainless evaporator plate, and air-cooled condensers plugged with grease dust from a fryer ten feet away. The KM series is built like a tank, but it cannot fight both at once.
The rule I give every Alameda owner is simple. If your KM-901 or KM-1601 is producing 20 percent less ice than its rated daily output, scale is the first suspect, not the compressor. Bay Area municipal water runs harder than the Hoshizaki manual assumes, and the crescent plate fouls faster here than the factory cleaning schedule implies.
We run out of San Ramon, ADRIUM Service Solutions, CSLB #1136642, EPA Section 608 Universal certified. The $75 diagnostic is waived when you approve the repair, quotes are written, and we work 7 days because a bar without ice on a Saturday is not a Monday problem.
Common repairs we do
What we close on the truck.
- Scaled evaporator plate producing thin, cloudy crescents. Mineral scale on the KM evaporator plate insulates it, so freeze cycles stretch out and the crescents come off thin and cloudy. Production drops well before the machine throws a code. We do a full nickel-safe descale of the plate, water pump, and distribution tubes, then verify cycle times against spec.
- Float switch stuck from mineral buildup. The KM dual float switch sits in the reservoir and collects scale until it sticks. The machine then misreads water level, short-cycles, or shuts down on a freeze-up. Cleaning sometimes saves it, but a pitted float gets replaced. It is a cheap part next to a locked-up machine on a Friday night.
- Clogged air-cooled condenser in tight bar back rooms. Alameda's older buildings put ice machines in closets next to kitchen exhaust. Grease and flour dust mat the condenser coil, head pressure climbs, and the machine trips on high pressure or slows to a crawl. We clean the coil chemically, check the fan motor, and confirm discharge pressure before we leave.

FAQ
Hoshizaki in Alameda questions, answered.
-
How fast can you get to Alameda from San Ramon?
We come across on 580 through Oakland, about 35 to 40 minutes outside commute hours, a bit more if the Posey Tube backs up. We already route through Oakland and San Leandro on service days, so an Alameda stop usually slots into an existing run rather than waiting for a dedicated trip. -
My Hoshizaki still makes ice, just less of it. Is that worth a visit?
Yes, and sooner is cheaper. A KM cuber that is down 20 percent from rated output is almost always scaled, and scale that sits eventually takes out the float switch or the pump. A descale visit now costs far less than a dead machine during service. -
What does the diagnostic cost and what is the warranty?
The diagnostic is $75 and we waive it when you approve the repair. Every quote is written before work starts. Repairs carry a 1-year warranty, and full installations carry 10-year parts and 10-year labor.
