Pacifica sits right on the coast, and the marine layer that rolls in over Linda Mar and Rockaway Beach carries salt with it. That salt settles on metal it should never reach, mounting hardware, hinge pins, condenser fins tucked in the back of a garage freezer, and it works slower than a leak but it is just as real a repair cause here as heat is inland.

Every fridge with a dispenser or ice maker has a water inlet valve. The fittings can leak under the cabinet, or the solenoid fails and the dispenser and ice maker stop getting water.

Corroded compressor mounts and relay contacts. The salt-laden moisture that Pacifica lives with year round works into the sheet metal behind a Haier compressor, and the mounting bolts along with the start relay's electrical contacts rust enough to keep the compressor from starting clean. It hums without turning over until I clean the contacts and reseat the hardware, and I check for how far the corrosion has spread before calling it done.
Rusted door hinges pulling the seal out of true. A hinge pin exposed to coastal air swells just enough with rust to tilt the door a few degrees off square, and a Haier's magnetic gasket cannot hold a seal against a door hanging crooked no matter how new the gasket is. I free up or replace the hinge hardware first, then fit the gasket to a door that actually closes flush.
Condenser coils losing capacity to salt buildup. Chest freezers kept in Pacifica garages collect a fine layer of salt on the condenser coil fins, and that film insulates the coil just enough that the compressor runs continuously without ever reaching the set temperature. A coil cleaning restores most of the lost capacity, and I recommend a rinse schedule for anyone storing a unit within a mile or two of the water.
