Half Moon Bay is the anchor town for the whole Coastside, and I cover Main Street and the harbor as well as Montara, Moss Beach, and El Granada up Highway 1. Homes here deal with year-round salt air off the ocean, and that changes how a Fujitsu system ages compared to an inland install, even one just a few miles over the hill.
The marine layer keeps this stretch of coast cool and damp most of the year, so these systems lean on the heat pump side far more than the cooling side. That is a different duty cycle than most of the Bay Area, and it means the reversing valve and defrost cycle see more use here than almost anywhere else I work.
We service Fujitsu on the Coastside through Bay Area HVAC Service. Written quotes, the $99 diagnostic credited toward the repair, and I am EPA 608 certified for the refrigerant work these systems need.
Common repairs we do
What we close on the truck.
- Salt air corrosion pitting the outdoor coil. Salt spray off the ocean pits the aluminum fins and cabinet screws on an outdoor unit faster here than almost anywhere else I service. The coil loses heat exchange capacity years before an inland unit would, so I clean and inspect these more often and replace fin sections or hardware before the corrosion causes a real failure.
- Defrost cycle sticking from constant heat mode use. With the marine layer keeping the coast cool and damp for long stretches, a Fujitsu heat pump on the Coastside spends most of its life in heating mode, and the reversing valve can get stuck mid-defrost with the outdoor coil iced over. The indoor head blows cool air instead of heat when this happens. I test the reversing valve and defrost control rather than just assuming a low charge.
- Corroded low-voltage connections at the disconnect. Wind-driven salt spray works its way into the low-voltage connections at the outdoor disconnect box over time, and a corroded connection there causes intermittent communication errors between the indoor head and the outdoor unit. I clean and reseal these connections and replace any corroded terminals rather than just resetting the system.

FAQ
Fujitsu in Half Moon Bay questions, answered.
-
Do you actually service Montara, Moss Beach, and El Granada, or just Half Moon Bay itself?
All of them. We keep a technician based on the Peninsula in San Mateo County who covers the whole Coastside, so Montara, Moss Beach, and El Granada get the same response as Half Moon Bay proper. -
Does the salt air really shorten the life of a Fujitsu outdoor unit here?
It does. I see corrosion on Coastside outdoor units well before I would expect it on an equivalent unit inland, so I check coil and cabinet condition more closely on every Coastside visit and clean units here on a shorter interval. -
My heat isn't working right in the fog. Is that a Fujitsu problem or just the weather?
It can look like weather but usually isn't. Constant heat-mode operation in the marine layer puts extra wear on the defrost cycle, so if your head is blowing cool air during a heating call, I check the reversing valve and defrost control before anything else.
