Delfield in El Sobrante

Delfield commercial service.

Downtown El Sobrante runs along San Pablo Dam Road between El Portal and Appian Way. A counter-service line there may rely on a Delfield serving counter that does two jobs at once, with hot wells on one side and refrigerated wells on the other. Each half fails in its own way, and one bad half is enough to shut the line.

The hot side comes down to elements, thermostats or controls, and water pans if you run them wet. The cold side is the condenser, fans, controls and refrigerant. El Sobrante calls go to our technician, who is based in Benicia. We charge $99 for the diagnostic, credited toward the repair, and give you a written quote before any work. CSLB #1136642.

Common repairs we handle.

  • Hot well slow to heat or not heating. An open element leaves a well cold, while a failing thermostat or control lets it creep up slowly and never reach holding temperature. We measure the element's resistance, test the control, replace the part that failed and then check that the well holds food hot.
  • Cold side warm while the hot side works. The refrigerated half has its own refrigeration system in the counter base. A dirty coil or a slow fan there lets the cold wells drift, and heat from the hot side makes it worse. We clean the coil, test the fan and check the charge if the readings call for it.
  • Wet hot well leaking into the cabinet. A hot well run with water can leak at the drain valve or a seam. Water in the cabinet reaches the wiring and rusts the frame. We find the leak, replace the drain valve or seal, and dry and check the wiring below before the well goes back into use.

FAQ

Delfield in El Sobrante questions, answered.

  • Can we run our Delfield hot wells dry, or do they need water?
It depends on the model. Some wells are made for water, some for dry heat, some for either. Check the manual or the data plate, or ask us on the visit. Running a wet-only well dry can burn out the element.
  • How often should we clean scale out of the hot wells?
EBMUD water is soft to moderate, so scale builds slowly in El Sobrante. Drain and wipe the wells at the end of each day they run wet, and descale when you see a white film on the pan. Scale on the bottom slows heating and makes the element work harder.
  • Can you look at the hot side and the cold side on one visit?
Yes. Both halves get diagnosed on the same visit, and every finding goes on one written quote. If the budget is tight, that lets you choose which half to fix first.
