Cooper&Hunter in Woodside
Cooper&Hunter heating and cooling in Woodside.
Woodside estates along Mountain Home Road and Kings Mountain Road run big Carrier or hydronic systems in the main house, but the secondary spaces tell a different story. A pool house with its own kitchen and laundry, a converted barn loft for the groom's quarters, a home gym over the garage. These smaller spaces often get a single Cooper&Hunter head instead of extending the main ductwork, and that is a reasonable way to build.
The problem is nobody checks these spaces every day. A pool house sits unused between weekends, a barn loft only gets opened up seasonally, and by the time anyone notices the room is not cooling, a small leak has usually been running for a while. When the original installer got the charge and the fittings right, this equipment gives very little trouble, so charge and fitting problems are what I mostly chase down, not compressor failures.
Redwood shade keeps mornings cool here and the cooling load stays light most of the year, so overwork is rarely the reason one of these heads goes down. I check the charge and every flare joint first.
Common repairs we do
What we close on the truck.
- Flare leak in a pool house that sits empty most weeks. A head serving the pool house's second kitchen or the laundry area can drip refrigerant at a flare joint for months before anyone spends enough time in that part of the property to notice. Once I find it, the fix is standard: pressure test to find every bad joint, cut and reflare the connection properly, torque it to spec, pull a full vacuum, then weigh in the exact charge so it does not just leak again next season.
- Short-cycling head in a converted barn loft. A groom's quarters or a converted barn loft is often a small, tight space, and a head sized without accounting for that will short-cycle, run loud, and leave the room feeling damp instead of comfortable. I check the sizing against the room, verify the charge, and correct the setup so the space actually dries out and holds temperature.
- Control board fault on an older head in the home gym. An older Cooper&Hunter head running the home gym over the garage or a similar converted space will sometimes just quit responding or flash an error and sit there. Nine times out of ten that traces back to the indoor board itself. Before I quote a replacement, I confirm the board is really what failed and check what is actually in stock, since a solid equivalent board often gets the unit running again faster than waiting on the exact original part.

FAQ
Cooper&Hunter in Woodside questions, answered.
-
What is the drive time to Woodside from San Ramon?
About 50 to 60 minutes, taking 680 south and then 92 or 280. Woodside is on our Peninsula day with Hillsborough, and we give a written arrival time so someone can meet us at the gate. -
Will you service a single head that only covers our pool house or barn loft?
Yes. A single head covering just the pool house or a barn loft is a normal call for us on Woodside estates. Approve the repair and the $99 diagnostic comes off the bill, with everything quoted in writing before I start. -
The guest house never quite gets comfortable. Can that be fixed?
Usually. A room that will not hold its temperature is almost always a refrigerant charge that has drifted low or a thermistor reading wrong, and both are straightforward to fix. I run down which one it is, put it in writing, and stand behind the repair for a year.
