The issue I am called for most in Danville is scale. The Dual Boiler in particular hates hard water, and out here in Green Valley and Sycamore the water leaves mineral deposits that slow the heat-up, choke the group, and eventually stress the pump. A machine that used to be ready in a minute and now takes several, with a weak shot at the end of it, is almost always scaled up inside.

Because Blackhawk and Diablo have so many custom kitchens, we see a lot of built-in and high-end setups here, more than in most cities. That does not change the approach. A Bambino Plus in a guest house gets the same bench test and honest read as a Dual Boiler on a marble island off Camino Tassajara, and the quote goes in writing first either way.

Dual Boiler heats slowly and the group runs cold. Long heat-up and a group that never gets properly hot is the classic scale story on a Breville Dual Boiler. Mineral buildup insulates the boilers and narrows the water path, so the machine works harder and delivers less. We descale both boilers and the group circuit, check that the heating elements and their thermostats are still in spec after the buildup came off, and verify recovery time and group temperature before we finish. If scale has already damaged a component, I show you what and quote it before replacing anything.
Oracle grinder or dosing acts up. On the Oracle line the built-in grinder does the grinding, dosing, and tamping, so worn burrs or a caked chute throw off the whole shot. We pull the burrs, clean the grind and dose path, check alignment and wear, and recalibrate. On a machine this expensive I would rather replace tired burrs than leave you chasing a grind setting that will keep slipping.
Steam pressure drops or the wand clogs. Weak steam on a Dual Boiler usually comes down to a scaled steam boiler, a blocked wand tip, or a steam valve that no longer seals. We clear the tip, test the valve and solenoid, and descale the steam side if mineral buildup is the cause. Hard Danville water tends to clog the steam path first, so we flush that circuit as part of the repair to keep it from clogging again.
