Bosch in Hercules

Bosch in Hercules kitchens.

Hercules is mainly two-story homes: the older subdivisions inland of Interstate 80 from the 1970s and 1980s, and the newer ones at the Waterfront, Victoria by the Bay and Olympian Hills. When a Bosch induction cooktop goes into one of those kitchens, it sits over a cabinet or a wall oven, and it needs air from below to cool its electronics.

Bosch induction cooktops throw an F47 or E5 code when the power module overheats. Most of the time the cause is a blocked cooling-fan vent, not a board failure. We pull the cooktop, vacuum the fan intake and heat sink, and check the module's temperature with a thermal probe before recommending an expensive board. Hercules is served by our technician based in Benicia. Every visit starts with the $99 diagnostic, credited toward the repair.

What the work looks like

A gas oven burner lighting clean after service.

A gas oven bake burner lighting with an even blue flame after service. The white bar is the glow-bar igniter, and when it weakens the oven will not heat even though it still glows.

Common repairs we handle.

  • F47 or E5 overheat code mid-cook. The code appears partway through cooking and the zone drops power. We clear the fan intake and the heat sink, confirm the fan spins freely, and test the module temperature under load. A board is replaced only when the cooling path is clean and the module still overheats.
  • Cooktop above a wall oven running hot. When a Bosch cooktop sits over a wall oven, heat rising from the oven warms the space the cooktop draws its cooling air from. We check the installation gaps against both manuals and make sure each appliance has the clearance it needs.
  • Wall oven convection fan grinding or silent. A grinding or silent convection fan leaves baking uneven. We check the fan motor and its blade, which can work loose on the shaft, and test the power reaching the motor from the control before replacing either.

FAQ

Bosch in Hercules questions, answered.

  • Our Bosch induction beeps and shuts off with a pot on it. Is the cooktop failing?
Not necessarily. Some pans are not magnetic enough for induction, and a pan much smaller than the zone may not be detected. Try a pan a magnet sticks to firmly. If a known good pan still shuts off, the cooling path or the power module needs a look.
  • Can you work on a Bosch cooktop without damaging our countertop?
Yes. The cooktop lifts out of its cutout from above once the clamps underneath are released. We protect the counter and the edges of the glass, and reseat it carefully when it goes back in.
  • Can a 1970s Hercules house run a Bosch induction cooktop on its old circuit?
It depends on the circuit. Induction cooktops draw a lot of current, and a circuit added for an older range may be undersized. We check the breaker and the connection at the cooktop. If the house wiring needs work, that goes to an electrician.
