Bosch Home Comfort in Cupertino
Bosch Home Comfort heating and cooling in Cupertino.
Cupertino sits in a pocket where the Santa Clara Valley's summer heat, routinely 90s inland, meets a housing stock that's overwhelmingly mid-century ranch construction. Those houses already have ductwork, which is exactly where the Bosch IDS and BOVA inverter ducted systems land. We see a fair number of them out here: homeowners converting off gas who want to keep the existing vents, not cut holes for wall heads. The IDS is a clean match for that. It's a real inverter heat pump, variable-speed compressor, runs on the ducts already in the house. The climate here is warm enough that the cooling side works hard from May through October, and mild enough that the heat pump handles most heating without backup strip heat.
When a Bosch IDS or BOVA calls for service, we pull fault codes from the indoor and outdoor control boards first and read them against the diagnostic tables before we touch anything. Bosch inverter boards communicate a lot if you know the code structure. On these systems the most common field issue we see is not a failed compressor, it's a refrigerant charge that was set by weight at install rather than dialed to target subcool and superheat. In Cupertino's summer heat, a slightly undercharged system will run continuously and still not cool, and that reads exactly like an inverter board fault until you attach gauges. We check charge, static pressures, and temperature splits before calling any electronic component bad.
Bay Area HVAC Service is the HVAC division of ADRIUM Service Solutions, a separate operation from the appliance side that handles Bosch dishwashers and ovens (we keep those books separate). We're based in San Ramon and run regularly to Cupertino. The $75 diagnostic fee is waived if you move forward with a repair. We write out the quote before any work starts, you see the number and approve it, nothing happens until you do. We're EPA Section 608 Universal certified for refrigerant handling and licensed under CSLB 1136642. Repair work carries a one-year warranty. New installs we put in ourselves carry ten years on parts and ten years on labor.
Common repairs we do
What we close on the truck.
- Inverter Board Fault After Summer Run Cycle. The IDS outdoor unit stores fault codes that log compressor inverter faults, communication errors between boards, and DC bus voltage events. In Cupertino's sustained summer heat, we see inverter boards log protection faults that are triggered by refrigerant charge drift rather than a board failure. Before condemning a board, we verify the charge condition and run the system through a full load cycle. A board that faults at high ambient but clears at cooler temps is usually a charge issue, not an electronics issue. Replacing the board on a short-charge system solves nothing and those inverter boards are not cheap or fast to source out of warranty.
- Reversing Valve Stuck in Cooling or Heating Position. When a Bosch heat pump delivers conditioned air in one mode but acts like a straight AC in the other, the reversing valve solenoid is the first thing to check. We verify solenoid coil resistance and the 24V signal from the control board before pulling refrigerant. Occasionally the valve body itself sticks, which you can confirm by watching suction and discharge pressures shift, or not shift, when the board commands the changeover. Cupertino homes that rely on the heat pump through the cool season notice this fast: the system blows ambient-temperature air on heat calls while cooling works fine.
- Thermistor and Sensor Faults Causing Short-Cycling. Bosch IDS units use thermistors on the outdoor coil, suction line, and discharge line to manage inverter compressor speed. A drifted or open thermistor feeds the control board bad data and the system short-cycles or locks out to protect the compressor. These sensors are inexpensive and are almost always in stock, so turnaround is quick. We confirm the fault code first, check resistance against the temperature-resistance table, and replace the specific sensor rather than clearing the code and returning. Short-cycling without a logged fault usually points back to charge, not sensors.

FAQ
Bosch Home Comfort in Cupertino questions, answered.
-
You're based in San Ramon, is Cupertino a regular service area or a long haul for your crew?
Cupertino is a regular run for us. We go down 680 to 237 or cut through the Sunol grade depending on traffic. It's not a one-off drive, we have customers across the South Bay and schedule Cupertino stops routinely. You're not paying a travel surcharge or waiting for a slow scheduling window because of distance. -
My Cupertino house already has a gas furnace and central AC. Is the Bosch IDS actually a good fit, or is it a system that only makes sense for new construction?
The IDS is specifically built for houses that already have ductwork, so a mid-century ranch with a gas furnace and AC coil is actually the target application. You swap out the outdoor unit and air handler, keep the existing vents, and the inverter system takes over both heating and cooling. The honest tradeoff: your existing duct sizing and condition matters a lot. If the ducts are undersized or leaky, the IDS will run fine but won't perform at spec. We look at that before recommending an install, not after. -
What does the $75 diagnostic fee actually include, and what kind of warranty covers the work afterward?
The $75 covers us coming out, pulling fault codes from both the indoor and outdoor control boards, doing a full refrigerant pressure check, and giving you a written quote for whatever we find. If you approve the repair the same visit, the $75 comes off the bill entirely. Repairs we complete carry a one-year parts and labor warranty. If we do a full system install, that steps up to ten years on parts and ten years on labor. We also confirm what utility and heat pump rebates are currently paying at estimate time, the numbers change, so we look them up rather than quoting a figure that may be stale.
